Anyone else in a stall?

Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm just a little over two weeks out from my surgery on the 2nd. I have been at the same weight for a few days. I am getting in my 80 oz. of Water, and my 80g of Protein, and yet, the scale isn't moving. I have a pretty active job, so I always up and moving. I guess I just need to hear some encouragement, or any suggestions on what others did to jump start their weight loss again. Lastly, I do three Protein Shakes a day, and two small 2 tbs. of shredded tuna and chicken, which is part of my programs food choices. Any suggestions? Thanks :)

I had a 3 week stall and that started right around the beginning of my third week post op. They say it's normal and that your body is adjusting. I'm almost 7 months out and have had 4 stalls. Good luck!

Totally normal. It really sucks to be in a stall because you start second-guessing everything, but just keep doing what you know you need to do and eventually the scale will get moving again :)

Seems like I have more stalls than actual weight loss...LOL. Seriously, stalls just plain suck and happen more than once to everyone. Stay on your plan, practice patience, and the weight will come off.

Well I'm really sorry you're in a stall but sure glad I'm not the only one! Tomorrow marks 5 weeks post op and I've lost 3 pounds in the last 2.5 weeks. It's so frustrating, but it sure helps that it's happening to most everyone. You do start second guessing everything and wondering if WLS isn't going to work for you, lol. So I agree with those that said stick to your plan and eventually it will come off. They've walked before us and are living proof this works so I guess we have to be patient (I'm not good at patience how about you?) and keep on keepin' on! Good luck!

I lost 31 pounds the 1st month post-op, 7 pounds the 2nd month and 7 pounds the 3rd month after surgery. Imagine all the stressful days in month 2, 3 and een now when I step on the scale and its the same, or God forbid it's 0.3 pounds heavier..... Your body has to adjust to this new life. I wish I had the strength to just weight myself once per week so I wasn't as scale crazy, but I somehow need that daily reminder in order to keep focused.

Just eat correctly, hydrate sufficiently and keep moving. WLS works, but it's just like when we dieted in the past, when your body thinks it's "starving", it starts holding on until it adjusts to the new "normal".

I've been on what amounts to over a month stall, with a loss of only around 3 pounds, but I'm getting smaller, so this extra poundage feels like it's Water weight.

Yesterday I switched over to an all fluids diet, with only a very small dinner, and dropped a pound this morning, so I'm hoping against hope that I can literally flush away this extra weight. I'll let you know if it works!

Congratulations! You have reached The Dreaded Week-3 Stall. It's perfectly normal, and just about all of us have suffered through it. You're not crazy, and your doctor didn't screw up. In fact, you might not lose any weight for two weeks or even longer. But don't worry – after that, the weight will start falling off if you stick to your program. And, the inches will continue to come off even while the scale isn't budging. Here's a good article that explains why it happens and why we all have to go through it. Hang in there. Pretty soon it'll be in the rear-view mirror and you'll be dropping weight again!

(Apologies to BP regulars who have seen this repeatedly, but it's a big deal to those who are going through it!)

I agree with the above statements stalls will happen and continue to happened just focus on one day at a time, continue to follow your doctors orders, exercise, drink your Water as well as Protein and the weight will come off, even when the scale does not move you are loosing inches, its normal. Try not to weigh in everyday although I know it may be hard. I am 9 months post opt as of yesterday and I have had many stalls but I am down 100 pounds . I am not at my goal weight yet but I know I will be stay focus and congrats on your choice on being healthy.

Thank you for all of the encouragement! The article was very helpful. I will try to stop weighing myself, and just follow the plan.

I was in a stall for about a month.. I am 41/2 months out... And was stuck at 200. I weighed myself again today, after a few days of staying away, and I am finally under that 200 mark!!! Don't stress.. It happens to everyone. But you will get past it!!

Only lost 2 lbs this past week... and 3 lbs the previous. I'm eating ok, have really only cheated once. Frustrating, but hey, a loss is a loss. And this is the lowest weight I've been at in years.

I felt much better last night because multiple friends told me my clothes were hanging off me. I hadn't realized it, so I went through my closet and wound up with 3 trash bags full of clothes to donate.

Much better now.

My starting weight was 287 and now I'm down to 202 where I was sleeved in Nov 2014. I have been at 202 for about 3.5 weeks.... I am wondering if I am causing this.................

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
