Hi all. I am going to be starting my preoperative diet soon. What is the best or better Protein Shakes and other items should I be getting in prep for this? I have heard Isopure is very good. What flavors? Do I get the low carb or no carb? Much appreciated for all the info. Chris

I tried Grape flavored Isopure and it tasted okay. The problem is that one 12 oz bottle of it costs close to $4.50 and that is too pricey for me. I also am using Premier Protein from Sam's Club. For the pre op diet though, I had 4 Adkins shakes a day.

HELLO,

I AM ON THE PRE OP DIET AND THE BEST ONE I HAVE TRIED IS PREMIERE Protein ITS BEST TO BUY IT AT SAM'S WHOLESALE YOU GET 18 FOR 18 DOLLARS AND SOME CHANGE SO IT COMES OUT TO A TINY BIT OVER A BUCK YOU CAN'T GO WRONG PLUS IT TASTE THE BEST BY FAR.FIND OUT FROM YOUR NUTRITIONIST OR DOC IF YOU CAN ADD sugar free FLAVORS AND Decaf coffee OR sugar free FAT FREE pudding IF SO THEN YOU CAN JUST POP THEM IN THE BLENDER AND MAKE ALL KINDS OF smoothies SO YOU DON'T GET TOO TIRED OF JUST DRINKING Protein ALSO IF YOU CAN HAVE POPSICLES NESTLE MAKES SOME AWESOME SUGAR FREE fruit POPSICLES.. AND DRINK ALOT OF WATER/CRYSTAL LIGHT TO FLUSH YOUR BODY CLEAN.. GOOD LUCK!!

BEST VICKY

SweetGAPeach, Brightlife, and Starting New thank you all for the advice. It seems like premier Protein will be the best choice. Are these bottles or are they powder mix? If they have both maybe I'll try them. Thanks so much again.

I wrote back on your post....

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
