I was one of the lucky ones. I could drink normally after about two weeks. Some people have to sip a lot longer. I almost six months out and haven't had any issues drinking or eating. I eat healthy and I made goal at about 5 months.

Wondering the same. I guess it's different with everyone. I still sip and I'm about 3 weeks out. I hope I can take bigger sips by summer time :) hot utah summers need hydration!

I'm having a super difficult time with the sipping. I'm not getting in enough liquids I don't think. I'm hoping that over time I can drink normally again because this is quite difficult.

What I do to help this, because this is hard for me to, is bringing my Water or drink with me everywhere and just put it where I can constantly see it. It reminds me I need to sip. I also have a husband that reminds me all the time as well but not everyone does lol I hope this helps. Just put it where it will bug you so you see it and remind yourself to sip.

I'm 7 weeks out and started using a straw at about 5 weeks. No problems and am able to get tons more Water in daily. No more sipping for me!

I'm 11 days out and I don't need to slow sip anymore. I don't gulp or guzzle. But I can take repeated swallows of Water with no issue. Can't wait to start using straws again!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
