Bring Protein bars/shakes with you. And don't worry, most cruises do have healthy options available, it's just a matter of making good choices. Plus, when in doubt, they are sure to have meat! Eat meat!

They do have healthy foods and a wide variety depending on the cruise line. We went on Norwegian a few years back and I was surprised how healthy the choices were. If your tempted to indulge put your swim suit on and go sit by the pool! Good luck.

We cruise 2-3x a year and we have one at 5, 8 & 11 mos post surgery. Gulp!! I can tell you I know. FOR SURE that you will have plenty of options, no worries there! eggs, tuna, salmon, grilled chicken, shrimp cocktail, steamed veg, fresh fruits & melons, yoghurt, sugar free Desserts if you choose to indulge, etc etc.. ENJOY!

Oh and almost all ships these days have decent gyms, jogging tracks and walking promenades, in addition to sunrise yoga & other classes too!

Plan, plan, plan to make good choices and not let this trip derail your progress. I went on a 10-day driving vacation at the 6-week mark and came back lighter than I left. Just stick with Protein options and you can't go wrong. Since calories aren't really much of an issue at this point, even the sauces on the meat dishes are okay, as long as you stay away from starches/carbs/sugars. Have fun and challenge yourself to succeed!!!

I went on a cruise in November, about 6 months post-op. I had no problem finding healthy meal options at Breakfast and lunch, because those were the buffet meals. I ate just a small scoop of scrambled eggs and a link of turkey sausage every day for Breakfast, then lunch was always a salad. dinner was the meal that was challenging for me, because we went to the sit-down restaurant, and our waiter was always pressuring me to eat more! I would tell him I just wanted the entree, no soup/appetizer/dessert, but he would bring me something extra anyway. I think they get offended if you don't eat a ton of food!

Finally the last couple of days on the cruise, I just started going to the buffet for dinner as well. That was easy to do because it was just me and my hubby on this cruise, if I'd been there with my whole family I probably would have kept going to the sit-down dinners. But anyway, my advice is just to eat what you can, and have fun! You will probably be fascinated at how much food everyone else puts away, I know I was.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
