Help me pack for surgery!

Recommended Posts

I'm about to start packing for the hotel and hospital stay. Could you please help me out? ???? I already have an idea of what I need, but a little help is always appreciated.

I was in for about 5-6 days and I didn't use any of what I packed entertainment wise lol!

I took,

Slippers with grips on that are easy to get on

A really baggy nightie - you are very bloated after as they usually pump you with air (thought not sure what you're having done)

Toothbrush, flannel, shower gel, hairbrush.

Lip balm as your lips get dry

Knickers

Charger for phone

Magazine or book

Baggy trousers / pajamas

Hope it goes well :)

Do they have free WiFi at the Marriott hotel?

You know, I cannot for the life of me remember. I went through my email correspondence and it looks like I was told there was free wifi in the common/public areas and that you had to pay extra if you wanted access in your room. I mostly watched movies/tv shows I had downloaded to my laptop from my DVR and read books on my Kindle while I was there. I don't remember if I did email and IM-ing from my room or not. I do remember sitting in the lobby and messing around on my laptop, but that may have just been while I was waiting for the shuttle or just wanting to get out of my room for a while. You should just email your patient coordinator to find out for sure.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
