the acid from the coffee whether its caffeinated or not also its a diuretic which means it stimulates your bladder to go more. Which means dehydration possibly.

I was allowed to start drinking coffee again at 30 days post op, just had to be sure to add milk or cream so it wasn't as harsh on my still-healing stomach.

Thanks so I guess red bull and 5 hour energy is out of the question!I'm 8 months out and my doctor is still saying NO caffeine

My Dr. & nutritionist told me "No caffeine starting now, because you can't have it after surgery...ever" This was said during the 1st required nutrition class and at each subsequent class. At the time I drank at least 3 cups a day, but chose to quit after that 1st class. That was 7 months ago, and now I can't stand the smell of coffee and don't miss it :)

I was told no Motrin and no caffeine but then told after stomach healed caffeine was ok but not in excess and told if I need Motrin just to take it with food and drink so it won't sit on stomach lining and cause a issue...they like liquid Motrin better if you take it. Anyways I drink 2 cups of coffee a day along with Motrin daily for some osteoarthritis issues my surgeon is aware said should not be a problem just don't do in excess. Almost 2 years since surgery and no problems...I think doctors error on the side of caution d/t your stomach is tiny now and they don't want chance hurting any part of what is left.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
