Hair Loss...it's kind of unsettling

Recommended Posts

So I'm starting to notice some Hair loss. It started with noticing how much more was on my bathroom floor. I have fine hair, but TONS of it (what my hairdresser always tells me), but that's starting to change. I started my liquid diet in late October of 2014, as I thought my surgery would be sooner than it actually was, which was 5 weeks ago. But I have been really good about two Premiere Protein Drinks a day (30 grams of Protein per drink), so I was HOPING it wouldn't happen. But it just does. So I've started a Biotin supplement to hopefully help it from getting too intense. I hope it's not noticable to others, and just to me. But who knows?

Anyone out there experience a thinning of their hair, where they could tell, but to the outside world it looked pretty much the same style wise? Or am I going to get bald spots or some crazy s&*% like that?

Still don't regret having the surgery one bit. Just don't like this side effect at all.

I've finally started to shed a little these last couple days. I've taken Biotin since before the beginning,I drink 80+ oz of Water a day and get at least 90+ grams of Protein a day since week 2 post-op, and have never missed my Vitamins. It's just happens I guess. I have a cute hair cut picked out in case it gets bad OR I may purchase some 260 gram hair extensions....I guess we just have to deal with it.

I haven't noticed bald spots, but my very thin (but lots of it according to my stylist) has gotten very thin. I notice when I wash my hair, it's like I'm washing my scalp, not a lot of hair, and I have tons of hair on my bathroom counter each day....... I tried using some hair volumizing products just to give it more lift and I now have areas of my scalp that have crusty scabs......so no more hair products for me!

I also have been religious about taking Vitamins and Biotin. I must admit to only getting 60-70 grams of Protein each day, but I don't think that's far off the mark. My husband says he can't notice a difference (Probably because i don't have bald spots) so I guess its not noticeable to anyone but me. Has anyone heard anything about whether or not Rogaine for Women would help?

How long were you on the liquid pre-op diet for?

Keeping up with your Vitamins and Protein intake will reduce the hair loss but not stop it completely from my understanding. nothing wrong with getting more than your recommended amount of Protein however. Would also suggest adding some Avocado or other source of "good fat" if you're able - that would likely help

I hear you on the hair loss..... I have a few bald spots, shed hair in clumps.... I'm good at hitting 60+ grams of Protein and Multivitamins. It will grow back.... our bodies are just stressed. For now, I pull it up with clips or in a loose bun... cover with headbands. I've also had 3 surgeries in 5 months (1 vsg + 2 hernia repairs). Deep breaths. If it gets Rediculously bad, I'm getting a wig.

I was already balding prior to surgery and it so far Biotin, Proteins, zinc, oils, nothing has helped! Currently this is my greatest frustration. Even the texture of my remaining hair is worsening.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
