Had surgery on 2/12/15

Recommended Posts

I went to hospital and was supposed to get the gastric bypass on 2/12/15. For some reason my surgeon changed his mind and refused to give me the bypass insisting on giving me the sleeve. I in time agreed to it.

My problem is I was studying and looking up info on the gastric bypass for months. I don't know much at all about the sleeve. I am happy with it though. Found out yesterday on 2/17 I had lost 20lbs!! That's 20lbs in 5 days. I didn't think that was even possible.

Anyways....if anyone has any info or anything about the sleeve please do tell. I wish everyone luck on their choice, recovery and new life.

I sleeved with you on the same day at noon. PM me with any questions and I'll do what I can to help.

On a side note, as much as I love my sleeve, changing day-of on you like that might well count as malpractice by your Doc. 100% skeevy.

Wow! I guess you'll need to do some research and hopefully your surgeon provided you with all the information you need about post-op diet and timeline. I'm no expert on RNY, so I don't really know what the exact differences are in terms of what you are allowed to eat and when. I think in the early days, the idea is generally the same in terms of putting Protein first and getting in all your Water. Good luck to you and feel free to post any specific questions!

Definitely a sleeve for me, but I don't get the surgeon changing procedures the day of surgery. Hopefully you knew before surgery and signed the correct informed consent!

Mae I agree. I hadn't slept much at all for few days before the date. I was tired as hell. He said from long story short I get the sleeve or go home. I told someone about it yesterday. She said surgeon was probably really busy and just wanted to do sleeve instead of gastric bypass because it's faster. My appt was @ 7. I was there @ 6 @ there was someone who got there after me but got it at 10.How's that possible I have no idea. I saw 2 or 3 more people get it before me. I just think it's because the surgeon was busier then he thought.

Jamie I was tired as hell. I got more info from patient next to me then the surgeon. I was just so mad at surgeon and tired as hell that besides what I've said I don't even remember what surgeon said.

Most surgeons provide printed booklets or binders with all of the nutritional guidelines. See if you can get a hold of one of those. If you don't mind my asking, who was your surgeon. It sounds to me like it might be a good idea to warn others away from choosing him for RNY!

Tom Umbach was my surgeon. I was given a folder with info on all the different types of surgery. He is a good surgeon but I'd say how he changed his mind on morning of surgery on the type when I was going to his office monthly for about 6 months and talked to him a few of those times just says he wasn't being very professional or respectful.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
