Surgery on 2/23 and sick

Recommended Posts

I'm five days out from my sleeve surgery and feel congested and the beginning stages of being sick (again). This will be the 3rd time since November! Anyway, I'm worried I won't be able to get the surgery. I'm just congested so far so I am hoping that if I don't have a fever I can still have the surgery. Anyone have anything like this?

Typically, as long as you don't have a fever, they will go ahead with the surgery...the biggest concern is with the anesthesiologist. As long as he or she is comfortable with the procedure, you should be okay.

I am having some drainage junk as well. I have been taking taking claritin and airbourne trying to head it off! Good luck! I hope it passes! I did my preadmission testing this morning and they said as long as my lungs are clear a common cold won't cause any issue. Hopefully it is the same in your case!

I was in the beginning stage of a cold or some sort of a respiratory virus on the day I was scheduled for surgery. My Dr said no to surgery that day and I was relieved . It was a good call, I ended up with a fever of 102 and it settled in my chest. It would've made for a difficult recovery from surgery. I rescheduled and had surgery 3 weeks later. It all worked out, it was just a nuisance to reschedule all of the plans I had for the recovery from surgey. I am happy we rescheduled.

I'm hoping to not reschedule since my mother in law is already here to help with my two toddlers. I don't know that I'd want her here long than three weeks ???? I'm just hoping this is some congestion, maybe allergies, and that it will calm down and go away ASAP. Positive thinking!

I'm sure you will be fine if your surgery is 5 days away. You can always call your surgeon's office and explain what's going on. That might make you feel more relaxed. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
