Fitness Goals?

Recommended Posts

I haven't had my surgery yet, but I'm scheduled for March 30th and I have a list of fitness goals I want to accomplish after my surgery. Has anyone developed a love of fitness after having their surgery. I'm curious to know how has your lifestyle changed and has fitness become a major part of that lifestyle. My first goal is to train for a half marathon.

You'll get there without even knowing it. I started off walking after surgery just like 3 miles a day then over a month or two I increased to walking 5 miles to running 2 of the 5 miles now I've joined a gym and work with a trainer with weight training and I love it, I love the way my lifestyle has changed for the better.

My first goal now is to train and be in shape enough to run the Tough Mudder with my son this year....so far it looks like it might happen, even though these runs seem pretty INSANE!!

My first goal was to complete the couch to 5 K training. My last session is today!!! I can't even believe it. When I first started, I could barely run the 60 second intervals. Tonight I will be running for 30 minutes straight. My first actual race is March 8.

I am also signing up for the Disney Princess Half next February. I can't wait to start training for it!

I was lucky in that along with my love of food, I always had a love of fitness as well. At my heaviest, I had a hard time being active. My feet would swell up and I just didn't have the energy. At where I am now, which is roughly 107 pounds less than my highest, I am comfortable with all forms of fitness. For the most part I can go into any class and keep up with the others, which was my goal. I wanted to be able to walk into any new gym and be able to complete the exercises in any class. I can do that now, and while I'm not the fastest or the strongest, I am generally happy to be participating in fitness related activities.

I'm glad to know that fitness has been incorporated into the new lifestyle. I think it is just as important as the nutrition. I have done zumba for the last 2 years, but it hasn't been consistent. I LOVE doing to zumba but I want to also be active with my family. Running, mountain biking and racquetball are some of the activities I'm looking forward to.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
