Feel like I can eat A LOT!

Yes it can drive you batty! Lmao I am almost 7m post op. I can only eat Proteins and very soft veggies. I use ramkins. I can only seem to eat 2-3 oz of any type of meat still. I went to buffalo wild wings and was stuffed to the point I thought it would come back up after 2 wings.... I still can't drink anything with my meals... If I eat raw veggies my stomach revolts even though I love them. :( it does depend on the type of meat.... Talk to your surgeon and nut if you are concerned... They will let you know. Good luck you are doing awesome

I eat a lot of Protein. I still drink portein shakes and don't even eat Pasta or bread or anything in that wasteful department. when I eat meat it is chicken or fish cause if it is a tougher meat like pork or beef I actually don't handle it very well and sits like a stone in my stomach. I know i'm eating well so i'm not concerned about that. I guess I was just so focused on how much but I'm glad to know there are others out there that are feeling the same way! Every one here is just awesome and so helpful I don't know where I would be without this site at times!

I'm one of those lucky people who could eat anything and nothing made me sick after surgery. I tried to pay attention to the serving size and the time in which they recommended my meal take. It's probably a bit different depending on your surgeon/dietician. I was to stop drinking 15 minutes before meals and take no more than 20 minutes for a meal and then not drink again for at least 40 minutes after the meal. The nutritionist told me to eat the Protein first and add the veggies and fruit if I wasn't full. She said, sometimes I may not have room for more than 3 green Beans. I thought "lady, you're nuts!" But, she was right! :D

In the very beginning, I measured everything. Then I learned that sometimes I "felt" full before I finished the serving and I stopped eating. Now I try to remember to record everything in My Fitness Pal and I measure for calories! Hang in there...you're doing great!

Wow. I have the same concern. I am about 11 days out. i am able to eat quite well. I restrict myself by only eating 3-4 oz. I am on soft food stage and eat Beans and cheese. But, I am still losing well so won't complain. I am following plan to the letter. my Dr. has a great history so, we shall see!

The mushy stuff goes down easier. As soon as you really start eating solids it will not be that way.

I'm 1 month post op and still much of my diet is softer Proteins. I was craving carbs after the gym at work the other day and order a bagel w cream cheese. I ate maybe a third and that took me forever. I later just licked the cream cheese off. TMI but true. I hated to throw it out but it wasn't going in without be being sick.

I am sure that different peoples surgery heals at different rates... there is swelling that makes it harder to get food in...when the swelling goes down, we can eat more...and liquids will open up the pyloris and let food out quicker... (why we dont drink with meals) Sliders seem to go down quickly and leave us hungry too. I can eat around 3 cups of soup... (I really have to count the calories) but some days an egg will fill me up. I am at 4 years, and can eat more than I did at a year... I can eat anything, and if I don't list in Myfitnesspal everyday... can easily go over my limit and gain. I try to eat Protein first but as a vegetarian, that might be grains or something that might not fill me up as quickly as a piece of meat... and use veggies to fillup the void if needed (almost always). Its a balancing act. I still need to fast a day or two a week to really keep the weight off or get it off if up.

I'm about 7 weeks out. For me, it seems every day is different. I have days where I can only do 2 oz of chicken and the next day, I might be able to hit 3 or 4 oz. Same with calories. One day I might be around 600. Today, I'm not very hungry, so I may only get 300. As long as I hit my Protein and Water goal, I'm happy.

I don't eat bread, Pasta, or rice. Its a huge no no with my doctor until 3 months out and I'm not wanting to try it for three reason. ONE....I have a family member who had this surgery 2 yrs ago and lost 150 lbs but was eating bread, pasta and rice as soon as she could. The problem with that is you are eating less and def will lose weight but you are not solving the unhealthy eating habits so she is not only back to her original weight but is about 20-30 lbs heavier. So I joined OE group to talk about my food issues. SECOND. My doctor said I might be able to handle it but it is unneeded food and lose out on Protein filling my stomach on carbs and starches. THIRD....I haven't completely learned to range when I'm full and tend to throw up a lot due to it. since those foods expand I think it will lead to a problem for me. I decided to go get 4oz containers and just use those to gauge my food and not eat more then that!

I don't like to measure because it makes me feel like I'm on a diet, and we all know how that worked out in the past! I did go to the Salvation Army and got several very pretty small plates which I use exclusively now. More than 3 oz fish and a little bit of vegetable are all that will fit so it is more of an indirect measurement!

I measured at first to just get a hang of it, but I mostly just eyeball my food now and judge how much I'll be able to eat, because I go from "not full" to "WAY TOO FULL" like the flick of a switch. I am pretty good at it now, but occasionally misjudge and pay for it in the form of extreme discomfort. Luckily I never actually throw up.

I had to only use 2 oz. containers in the soft foods stage, just to warn you. It was a while before I could handle 4 ounces of anything (even soup) and even now, 6 months post-op, I can typically only handle about 3 ounces of meat.

I'm almost 6 months post-op so I can eat any meat now, though I'm supposed to restrict beef. I eat beef maybe once a week, if that? I am not a fan of fish, but I love shellfish so I eat a lot of shrimp. I eat mostly chicken (obviously), but also do turkey sausage, pork, or whatever else my husband makes for dinner. He's the cook in our house and I just have whatever the Protein is from whatever meal he is making for himself. He's fond of various Indian sauces, so he'll do chicken Makhani or Rogan Josh. He makes his with rice, but I just have the chicken and sauce. He makes pork enchiladas with verde sauce and I will just have the pork and salsa without the tortilla. He does turkey kielbasa with perogies and I just have the sausage. He'll do turkey meatloaf with mashed potatoes and I'll just eat the meatloaf (with ketchup!). You get the picture.

I always do leftovers for lunch, so I typically have two meals of meat a day. Breakfast is a Protein Bar and my Snacks are cheese sticks and greek yogurt.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
