I have heard you have to wait 2 years to get pregnant, but what happens when you do get pregnant? Is it hard to lose the weight after having the baby?

Looking for everyone's thoughts about pregnancy and having the sleeve surgery.

Thanks!

I think I had to sign something at my surgeon's office stating I would not get pregnant for at least one year post-op.

I don't think that's the answer the OP was after, because she stated she heard you have to wait two years. Personally, my surgeon said 18 months and my OB said 12 months. She (and I) would love to know what happens when you DO get pregnant after the sleeve. Is it hard to lose the weight? How do you eat for two? For those that were pregnant before the sleeve and then after, how was your pregnancy different?

Sorry, I realized what she was asking, but don't have the answer to what she was asking -- just wanted to clarify that in my doc's office, it was only one year, not two.

Had anyone had a baby after having the sleeve surgery?

I'm interested in this as well, because one of the main reasons I'm having surgery is to improve fertility. My husband and I have been trying for like 2 years now. It's frustrating and hard.

My surgeons office says 12-18 months. I am worried about getting pregnant too soon, bc I'm anti birth control at this point (I'm convinced it messed me up and that's why I can't get pregnant now--this might be completely false, but it's my thoughts). And condoms..are helpful, I guess. But it's going to be SUPER weird to use them after 6 years lolol.

But yeah---anyone get prego after the sleeve? How soon after? How did everything go?

Following, I'm curious as well. I just had a baby in June 2014 and should be getting the sleeve in March. I plan to wait 18 months (Doc recommendation) and then get pregnant again.

I'm basically doing the same thing. I had a baby in November 2013 and then had my sleeve surgery in October 2014. I hope to get pregnant around February 2016, which is a few months shy of my 18. Hopefully, I get pregnant a lot quicker then the last time! It took awhile and a few rounds of clomid (I'm happy that's all it took).

Now that I actually have my sleeve, I don't think I could sustain me and a baby at this point (4 months out). There is no way I could eat enough. Hopefully in a year, I'm at goal and able to eat a little more to have a healthy pregnancy.

I'm so sorry that you're going through fertility problems. I know from experience that it's super rough. I hope this surgery makes your problems go away!

Have you looked into natural family planning? It might be a good option if you don't want to use condoms or birth control. You have to be meticulous about getting your basil temp and charting, but other than that, it's easy.

My doctor said 12mos but I have read people getting pregnant 6 mos after the surgery. I think there is a thread on here that have some members that got pregnant before the allotted year.

I am currently 4 months (16+ weeks) pregnant and had my sleeve in October 2013. (I was 14 months out and 3-4 months maintaining a 150lb loss when I got pregnant). I've had a very smooth and easy pregnancy. I had a Mirena IUD for years, had it removed 13 months post-op and got pregnant right away.

I just had emergency gallbladder removal surgery as i had 4 gallbladder attacks (stones and blockages) in 3 weeks. I've always had stones since high school but a 150 lb weight loss and pregnancy exacerbated the condition. Baby and momma are both doing great.

In reference to weight gain. I have actually lost about 7-8 lbs since I learned i was pregnant (i had gained 15 lbs from my absolute lightest). My doctor isn't concerned AT ALL. With constant nausea it is challenging for any pregnant woman to eat. I get constant bloodwork to ensure that me and my baby are getting the nutrients we need, which we are.

No pregnant woman should be "eating for two". This is what puts women in the category of gaining too much weight during pregnancy. The priority is getting all the nutrients necessary, not eating bigger quantities. If anything i think my sleeve is letting me have a healthier pregnancy by not allowing me to gain too much weight, specifically fat. I'm sticking to my goal of 15-20 lbs weight gain by delivery. Meaning my weight gain will be primarily if not all baby and the extra blood, fluids, placenta etc. which should weigh around 15lbs.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I am a first time mom and am 28 years old.

There's a forum specifically for pregnancy on here. You'd probably get more info by reviewing old posts on that board. I'm also wanting one more baby post surgery, so I frequent that one.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
