For future reference I was wondering if I decide to go out and have a drink would a beer be better than a Margarita. Girls from work like to get together and I haven't told but two people there about surgery so I don't want them to get supicuous

Beer has bubbles. Bubbles are bad. I can't do most beer anymore. IF I drink beer I choose Guinness (an acquired taste for sure) but it is VERY lightly carbonated and doesn't bother me tough it does fill me up fast. Margaritas have sugar which at best is bad for weight loss and at worst could make you sick\dump especially early on. Sooooo... I drink. Tried my first post op drink about 4 months out. Picked a bloody mary which filled me right up but didn't bother my tummy. YMMV with the spice. Red wine early on kinda hurt at first, white was better. Light cranberry\vodka is a good go to if I can get it. You may wish to experiment at home a time or 2 before indulging in public.

WLS people should avoid carbonation. Drinking isn't bad per se, but it can slow down your weight loss. Not only that we have to be careful about transfer addictions. Once in awhile wouldn't hurt, but if I were to choose from the two you listed I'd take the margarita.

Good luck!

I have trouble with the carbonation also. A glass of wine sipped slowly works for me.

Whatever you decide is best for you be forewarned that you will get tipsy on a whole lot less than you did before. 1/2 a drink and I am slurring my words slightly and giggling like a goofball. Be careful.

I drink Vodka Martinis and am 7 weeks out. I don't get anymore drunk than I used to. I guess it affects each person differently.

I don't get Hangovers. Maybe because I am used to drinking!

Agree with other posters.... beer bubbles will make you feel uncomfortable. Keep in mind too that your alcohol tolerance will change now with your sleeve. I can get a slight buzz on 1/2 glass of wine now. I stick with heavily watered down margaritas, fruity martinis. And..... I make sure I'm not driving. You might want to just kinda experiment at home. Will also vary on if you have eaten or if you are empty.

Margaritas are extremely high in calories. If they offer a skinny or low calorie version that would be better.

I drink prosecco. Yes it is somewhat bubbly but I let the bubbles die down some. You can get a whole glass for 50 calories.

I ran this by my surgeon last week and he said I'm good to go with that as my alcohol choice.

Just don't forget that alcohol turns to sugar!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
