To people who are post surgery for a while now, do you still enjoy restaurants and eating socially? Can you eat in restaurants? Do you enjoy vacations and eating on vacation?

I'm still four weeks pre-surgery so I don't have first hand knowledge. However, my boss had gastric bypass a few years and still enjoys social dinners and vacations. She's VP of Marketing and Public Relations, so she at social functions several times a week.

I'm sure it will be tough at first, especially while we recover, but I think once we learn how to treat our sleeve and food isn't the main focus we will enjoy social dinners.

i do enjoy restaurants. (someone else cooks I'm happy)

A few tips. Pull menu's up online. Helps you to know what they serve and you can make good choices. Most social gatherings have Protein and veggies (but you never know) Offer to bring a dish may help. Find one of you're favorite bariatic friendly recipes to share. It's more about the conversations and enjoying the people around you.

I'm three months post-op and I enjoy eating out just fine. I've done business lunches and such, no problem.

I was a little nervous to go out to eat. Just wasn't sure how it was going to be, what I would eat, how much I would eat, etc. The first time was about a week after surgery. I ordered chicken Soup strained at Ruby Tuesday. The soup was brought out with everyone else's Entrees. And it was delicious! Since then, it's been a piece of cake. I'm 8 weeks out and went to La Madelines yesterday and had the delicious Tomato Soup and a little bit of the quiche Lorraine filling. Again, no problems and it is so nice to enjoy the company more so than the food.

It's been four weeks since my surgery so I am still on soft foods. I have been to restraunts several times. I usually look online at the menu to decide if there is anything on it that will work. Usually certain Soups and tuna salad will work and I suppose eggs could be ordered for Breakfast. It not as easy at this stage but options will open up slowly when I move to the next stage.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
