Hiya

I am 19 days post op on a full smooth liquid diet. My problem is that I don't seem to have any restriction with liquids. I have not gulped down a full glass of anything in one go or anything like that, but I can drink a full glass of milk at a pace I would usually do pre-sleeve with no problems. I have had no problems with liquid since I was allowed them on day 2?? Is this normal? I'm worried that I am stretching the sleeve by drinking normally. I have just been reading that people are supposed to take small sips 5 minutes apart to avoid rupturing the staple line! The nurse at the hospital said I can't drink to much when I asked because it would come back up. But it never has! I don't want to be doing myself any damage but I have felt quite hungry so I don't think I could hold out for one sip every 5 minutes! I also saw a lady on YouTube who had literally 2 sips of Apple juice and said she was stuffed! I really wish I was stuffed on 2 sips but it's just not happening! I have not cheated or anything like that as I am determined that this sleeve will work for me. But I was just wondering what other people's liquid restriction was over their liquid phase.

Thanks in advance xx

To the extent that most people feel restriction with liquids, it is because their new stomach is so bruised and swollen. The fact that you are able to drink relatively normally is a testament to your surgeon's excellent technique and your body's speedy healing. Don't push things by chugging or gulping -- but because you don't want to hurt or inflame things or learn "the hard way" what is too much too fast - not for fear of rupturing your staples. Being gentle with yourself and not pushing limits is a good habit to build up! Drink like you have been and don't look a gift horse in the mouth ;)

You will feel restriction when you move on to soft foods, I promise!

Awww thank you so much. I have been really lucky in regards to sickness so far(touch wood!). I was just concerned that maybe my head was taking over my stomach and I was not noticing that I really needed to stop drinking. I would be too scared to gulp as I really dread bringing it back up. I have struggled to keep any lost weight off all my life so I would really hate to self sabotage this new start for me xx

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
