butchga 0 Posted February 16, 2015 I am getting ready to hopefully be approved for a gastric sleeve. Initially the doctor told me since I have a stricture I would be better off doing the bypass. I did not want to go through what it entails and feel like I would be better with the sleeve. As long as I take the ompressezol I am fine. Has anyone gone into have surgery having a stricture already and did fine??? Waiting in Alabama
butchga 0 Posted February 16, 2015 Well one reason is, is that I have talked with people who have acid reflux and were told they needed bypass and went with the sleeve and did fine. That is why I was wondering if anyone on this forum had one to begin with and how they did?
My3lovies 25 Posted February 16, 2015 I have a stricture that has been stretched twice in my life also a hiatal hernia I never noticed that much reflex or heartburn but I was told that's what causes a stricture, my surgeon told me that people with reflux can sometimes have issues after a sleeve but he rarely seen it and if it is bad Pepcid or Prilosec usually keeps it in check. I choose the sleeve and never had a problem! It has been 18 months since my sleeve, Also I was told if I have the sleeve and after the reflux was horrid and I couldn't take even with meds they can go back and convert to a bypass. But not a issue.
MamaTo3inNH 100 Posted February 17, 2015 Inhad reflux pre-surgery, and my surgeon absolutely will not, under any circumstance, do sleeve or band on Someone with anything worse than the occasional heartburn from spicey foods. I wouldn't risk it.
butchga 0 Posted February 17, 2015 thank you for the comments. I am just to have to trust that I will be ok, and that by taking my medicine it wont be so bad. I just don't want to go through having a bypass because of many reasons. I feel like the sleeve is safer and it will have just as good as outcome
