I have my class on Thursday buy I was wondering if anyone knew if Mcdonald smoothies were ok to drink pre op or their iced coffee

I'm not familiar with McDonald's smoothies but I just did a quick search on it. It only has 3g of Protein but has 47g of carb. So I'm going to say no.

And if you are adding sugar, creme, and flavor to that ice coffee, I would also say no to that as well.

The preop diet is high Protein low carbs. So if you are eating/drinking stuff that is high and sugar and carbs then it is not allowed on the preop diet.

I had pretty strict protein/carb ratios to stick to with my pre-op diet. I also had to stop consuming caffeine pre-op and wasn't allowed to start again until 30 days post-op.

I had another question. On preop can I eat Tomato Soup?

Depends on your pre-op guidelines. I was not allowed any Soup except minestrone occasionally. I had very strict guidelines though.

I start my preop this weekend and have my class tomorrow. I have been trying to get used to pre op. Can you drink broth all day or use it as a Meal Replacement

My pre op was 5 days of Clear liquids except for 3 Protein shakes a day. So yes, I could drink broth all day long and the Protein Shakes were really my Meal Replacements but broth can be used for this too. Even post op when eating would wear me out during the early stages, I gave up on dinner and just went back to broth. Everyone's pre & post op diets are going to be different. The best source of information is going to be your surgeon's office. Good luck in preop and try not to get too hangry :D

FYI - I also treated myself when I got too hangry by stopping at the hibachi place and ordering a quart of their clear Soup during pre & post op. It was a nice break from regular broth. Oh, and chicken broth taste so much better if you add a beef bullion cube.

Here's a question I forgot to ask yesterday. They say 2 Protein Shakes a day. How big of a Protein Shake? 8oz 12oz

I didn't have any size requirements on my Protein shake. The only restriction was it had to be 200 calories or less.

I was given specific nutritional guidelines for mine:

Minimum of 20 grams of Protein per serving
Less than 8 grams of carbs with less than 2 grams of sugar, and a minimum of 3 grams of Fiber
Less than 3 grams of fat
Less than 200 calories per serving, best at 150
whey Protein is preferable

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
