Foods Getting stuck!

Recommended Posts

Hello, I was hoping everyone would share your experiences with me on food getting stuck and how to get it to finally go through. I find I am having a hard time after my second fill to eat chicken, fish, tuna, and Beans. Everytime I eat them i get stuck! I just had a few bites of Talapia for dinner and I stared regergitating. I phoned the Dr (this was on a Friday night and he phoned me right back !)and he said to walk, walk, walk and to jump up and down and move around a lot. That eventually it would either come up or go down. My stomacch would crush it and it would go down. And not to eat or drink anything. Sure enough I walked to the park and I feel better know.It took 2 and a half hours to go through. I am afraid to eat those foods anymore now. How will I get my Protein in ?:help:

I manage it by not being tight, but I still get stuck. For some really weird reason, when I go out to eat, I'm always open, I've only once had a problem in public, but I'm extremely careful then too.

I'm trying to eat Soup at the moment, this bacon and lentil Soup that I like and it's getting stuck. This soup always gets stuck for me, how on earth does soup get stuck?

Generally though, at 2.5 ml in a 4ml band I"m pretty loose and just have to eat carefully or I'll get stuck, but I can eat almost anything. Almost.

When it does happen, I walk around and jump up and down and bend over. I've only ever PB'd twice in 18 months, I'm not a vomiter and seems I'm not a PBer either. I've wished once or twice that it WAS more easy to hurl it back up.

Hello;

In answer to your question: It is when certain foods lay over the stoma or opening to the lower stomach that get stuck. Since they won't go down they have to come up. So, you regergitate it to get it out.

I'm having the same problem. However if I drink something the whole thing comes right up. Therefore I have no idea how people cheat by drinking and eating. I get protien from protien drinks, special K Water. I also use a mini chopper to puree tuna or egg salad. However carbs just slide on down ......

Feel better.......your not alone

I can eat a piece of pizza carefully - though at this restriction I'm not sure I'd choose it anymore, I'd probably be more likely to choose Pasta since I know that's an easy food for me.

I'm fine with Indian food like curries, meat is no problem, any cafe style dining where you can get a big caesar salad (yes I know how fattening they are, lol, but they are divine) or any other kind of fancy salad, a piece of salmon or similar, I'm fine with all that.

I've had to sit through a few Chinese banquets though which is ridiculous, there's no way I can get through them. I probably would not participate again and just order my own dish. I dont believe in obsessing over getting your money's worth when dining out, to me the cost of a meal out is really for the socialising, not the food and I dont give a toss about doggy bags or paying for food I dont eat, within reason. $60 for a banquet you eat 1/8 of is a bit silly.

Actually come to think of it, the reason I havent eaten tuna in months is it always sticks for me too. I dont eat much fish at all actually because of the solid Proteins, I find meat and chicken WAY easier than fish.

It's funny how some things gets stuck on some people, and on others they work just fine. I have heard a lot of people say they can't eat chicken at all any more. I have heard the same thing about steak too. Then I have heard that a lot of people can eat anything they want without it getting stuck except for bread.< /p>

I was getting stuck with almost everything I ate after my 2nd fill. I learned to chew better and cut my meat into the tiniest bites. Now I rarely get stuck. I am having a new fill on Wed. though, and what I have always been told is, what works before a fill, may not work anymore. I will be finding out soon!

Patina, Just make sure you are chewing until there is nothing left to chew.

Chew until goo, is what they say!

I have been PBing a lot lately. It's because I eat too fast and don't chew enough. I chew each piece of meat about 30 times. It should be mush by the time it leaves your mouth. I notice that if I'm hungry, I PB, so I think it's a good idea to eat small meals several times a day to avoid PBs. Also as Tired Old Man or Jack ( I can't remember) says, cut meat in chiclet size; then chew until the meat is pretty much mush. That has worked much better for me. I often mix meat with some soft vegetable so it will go down. That works pretty well. I also notice I PB when I'm stressed. I went up to my brother's in Colorado and PBed for 3 days before it finally stopped. We were working pretty hard and it was a strange place so I guess I was stressed. But later I was able to go to my favorite steak house and eat like a horse. Okay, I had to bring half of my filet home, but I ate it later and had no problems. I have found that walking, jumping and stretching backward helps PBs. Soft bread is murder, but toasted bread like Melba toast works if you chew it a whole lot. Sometimes, I can eat a piece of bread! In Colorado, I ate half a sandwich and it went down very well;then I got hungry again and ate another half a sandwich and PBed. You just never know. I recommend pineapple juice which Carlene calls human drano. It helps if you sip it because it is very acidic and breaks food down. Hope this helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
