Protein Shakes-What brand do you use?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. It is almost time for me to start my pre-op diet and I am indecisive on what Protein shakes/powder I want to buy. I have been provided information but would like to hear what others are using. Also, I would like to possibly get one that could work pre-op and post-op.

Your insight is greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much. I have tried that one before and it never really dawned on me until now. I haven't tried Atkins but will definitely look into it.

Thanks again.

I use Premier Protein shakes which are pre-made and I use powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein powder. It is best to try several samples. Most peoples tastes will change after surgery. I ended up giving away tons of shakes that I no longer liked after surgery. There are several websites that have samples and you can also try GNC for samples.

Thank you and that is a great idea. I'm going to check out the sample idea for sure. :)

I have been concern over this question as well. I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. I have bought Premier shakes, Muscle Pro light, another brand from Sam's Club. I have also bought the powder Protein from Sam's and Cosco. So far, the Cosco brand has less of a chalky taste. Today, I bought a powder Protein mix from GNC that is not whey based and hope to use it like people use crystal light to flavor my Water, yet help to get my daily protein amounts in. Good luck!!!

This is a great resource I found from reading these boards -

http://www.nashuanutrition.com

They have sample sizes from dozens of different brands, I ordered a couple of each to try pre-op to see what I like. Most people say their tastes change after surgery though, so not stocking up too much.

Good luck!

Thanks y'all for all of the great advice. I'm willing to try it all to avoid any hiccups after the surgery. I am not a shopper so the less of that I have to do the better.

I'm 11 days until my surgery and am an over-preparer. I start my pre-op diet on Thursday. I am not dreading it at all. It is my new start and one I have longed for all too long.

For ready-to-drink shakes, I preferred EAS AdvantEDGE Carb Control, rich dark chocolate flavor. You can buy them at Walmart and Target. For Protein Powder, I liked Now Foods Unflavored whey isolate, which I would flavor with various Torani sugar-free syrups.< /p>

I have never thought about doing my own flavoring. That's another fantastic idea. Thank you

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
