What's your favorite tried and true go to meals or snacks?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what everyone's favorite meals and Snacks are... getting a little bored and wanting to try some new things! I'm going grocery shopping tomorrow so looking for ideas :) I'm mostly looking for quick and easy Breakfast, lunch, and snack ideas that I can take with me to work. I make lots of new recipes for dinner and on the weekends...

Here's my regulars in case anyone else wants new ideas:

Breakfast is one of 4 things usually:

1. Protein Shake

2. oatmeal with spoon of GENEPRO added

3. Greek Yogurt with nuts

4. Egg and cottage cheese

Snacks are usually:

Cheese and a few Nut thins

Greek yogurt

Veggies and Hummus

Almonds

For lunch I always just take leftovers from dinner.... Forgot to say that i mostly eat vegetarian with some seafood occasionally :)

These are some of the things that are in my regular rotation, along with the things you listed. I didn't put in meat options, since you said that you mostly eat vegetarian.

For snacks:

-The Good Bean roasted chick peas

-Babybel light cheese

-roasted edamame

For breakfast:

-Quest Protein bar

For lunch:

-high Protein lentil chips with hummus or Peanut Butter and sugar free jelly

shiritaki Tofu Noodles are a great Pasta substitute. I ate this with lapband- haven't tries with sleeve yet but I would make Shrimp Scampi with the Shiritaki Tofu Noodles & vegetables. You can do it without the shrimp & lots of veggies

This is a great question. I'm curious whhay other people are eating.

Breakfast is usually egg whites, turkey sausage, or Greek yogurt.

lunch is sometime rolled lunch meat. Lots of times it's whatever is left from a meal I couldn't finish the night before.

dinner is shrimp, canned chicken, or ground turkey. A bit of mixed veg with soy Beans, spap peas, and baby carrots.

My surgical practice doesn't approve of hummus. No nuts, Protein Bars, or Peanut Butter. Also fruit is only supposed to be a morning snack.

I just saw a terrific recipe on Facebook. Its sliced tomatoes topped with provolone & parmesan cheese, spices and baked. It looks like mini pizzas but the tomatoes are the crust. I can't wait to make it

I have seen a recipe for a Pizza Crust made of cauliflower. Hoping to try it soon. Also tried cloud bread. It's pretty good after it's sat overnight. If you eat it right after it cools it is crunchy like a meringue.

I make a crustless quiche that I eat everyday. You can change up the flavor profile by what you add. My favorite is bacon, swiss, green onion, roasted red peppers and mushrooms.

5 eggs

1 C cottage cheese

Any cheese, veggies, seasoning or meat you want to add. I also add 1 or 2 scoops GENEPRO to up the Protein.

Just whip together and pour into a greased pie pan. Bake at 400 F for about 30 - 35 minutes. Makes 6 good size portions.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
