Help me please, I cant keep water down!

Recommended Posts

So its been awhile since ive written, and that is beacuse i havent had any problems what so ever....UNTIL NOW! I had my first fill 4 weeks ago of 1.5 cc's in a 4cc band. Yesterday i had my second fill, at first he put in 1 cc, but it was too tight, so he took out .5cc's, SO now my total is 2cc's in a 4cc band. Well i drank a sip of Water in the hospital when i got the fill and it went down, when i got home last night, i tried to take my medication and i threw it back up, then later that night i took a drink of iced tea and it came right back up. Today i have been drinking or rather taking VERY small sips of water and it still comes back up, I tired eating some refried Beans and it comes back up. Very rarely does the water i drink stay down. It feels almost as if there is a whole bunch of gas trapped in my stomach that wont come out, and when i take a drink of water it upsets it and i get pain like its stuck, and then my throat starts girgling and eventually i throw up the water, or burp and im all better. My question is.....Should i demand an unfil? I called the surgeon today and he said to just wait it out it should go away, but i cannot even drink WATER......im so so so SO thirsty yet i cannot drink anything but tiny sips of water. Im at my wits end here, I dont know what to do. Im so frustrated. If anyone has went through this, or has any advice for me, PLEASE let me know....Im desperate!!!! Thanks all.

it sounds like swelling? have you tried chewing up a tums? I know that sounds wierdly simple but it might help your stomach relax. Maybe one of your medication pills became lodged in your stoma? If thats the case it will pass quickly but id try a tums or two and if that doesnt help anything, and if it were me, id call the dr back if its not better by tomorrow afternoon.

sorry you are going through this. ouch.

I would get a small unfill, I was always told we needed to be able to keep liquids down. Until then, you might try something warm/hot to sip, tea maybe. Really cold liquids seem to make me feel tighter.

I'm not banded yet, but I think you should talk to your doc about getting a slight unfill. And to at least get some water in in the meantime, have you thought about ice chips?

Hope this helps.

You definitely need an unfil and should see your surgeon ASAP. If you can't keep Water down, you risk dehydrating and will eventually need IV fluids.

The suggestion is usually when you are tight is to drink warm fluids, it decreases the restriction.

Got it. Sorry...I was just thinking about helping her get some Water in until she could get to her doc...but you're right. I have read about the warm fluids helping to loosen things up.

If you can't keep liquids down, then you need to call your doctor. Don't wait too long! A small amount taken out will make a big difference. Let us know!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
