Shoulder Pain! Help!

Hello, everyone!

My name is Caroline, and I just got a RnY Gastric Bypass on 2/10. I have had a few annoyances after surgery, but none greater than a terrible, nagging, sharp pain in my left shoulder! In the hospital, one of my nurses told me it was probably gas from the surgery, and that I need to walk as much as I can to help it go away. Well I have walked several hours a day- a surprising feat considering I'm from New England and we have been covered with snow and single digit temps this past week. I have noticed that the shoulder pain goes away if I walk for an extended period of time, or if I lay absolutely still on my back. When I change positions, or sit up, I am plagued with sharp pains in my shoulder. I'm usually pretty good about pain, but this sensation is so sharp that it literally stops me dead in my tracks and takes my breath away. Has anyone dealt with this intense shoulder pain? When did they go away? Any tips? I have pain meds, but they don't do much for my shoulder! Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Gas pAin. It does go away but it is excruciating. I wasn't warned about that and I was like WTF when I tried to move. Moving helps but u have to get it out-one way or another so don't be vain.

Little shoulder massage works too. :-)

Maybe chewable gas x tablets or strips i brought some just in case i haven't had surgery yet im scheduled for February 19 hope this helps

Thanks for the tips, guys. It was definitely gas pains, and as tired as I was, walking was the best cure!
