Impatiently waiting...June sleevers?

Recommended Posts

"Sigh. Look how optimistic I was there! My insurance doesn't count the first visit with the surgeon as part of the six-month nutrition program. So my last appointment won't be until June. Which means my surgery will likely be July. I was hoping for June for many reasons, one being that the company I work for is moving in July, and I wanted to have it done and take the time off before the move. Blah."

Oh no! Do you have United Healthcare? The reason why I ask is because my weight loss clinic told me that they included my surgeon's visit as the first one too, (I was seen twice in January which they counted as the first two). If that's the case, then I won't be sleeved until July too. :(

No, I have Blue Shield of California. HOWEVER, I still think you're going to be joining me in the July group! Generally, the requirements are six months of monthly supervised visits, NOT six consecutive visits. I think they're going to count your two January visits as one visit.

Think about it all the time. Shared it with my boss who seems supportive since I will be out of work for so long.

Hey guys so I have done everything required before you get insurance approval and my surgeon just put in for approval on Friday. I am so excited, but also nervous. So know how often people get denied. Should I be worried about that? How long does it normally take to hear back from them?

My next appointment is this Wednesday, I'm going to ask about this. When I questioned them before, they told me that patients have been approved with six visits.

Had my Dr. Appt today - itt should be 2 weeks before insurance authorization comes in, then 4 weeks of liquid diet... That puts me in mid-June at the earliest. Yes, the wait is frustrating!

Talked to my coordinator today to make sure I had all my stuff in, just waiting for May nutrition appt...she says due to scheduling load I probably won't get in until July. : (

It's only an extra month but I am so depressed. I have pictured this so much it is so hard to wait. So I guess now I am an impatient July sleever...

Glad to see everyone's progress, keep posting!

I have my psych eval tomorrow and it is causing me a little stress. Can anyone tell me if this is a big deal?

I wouldn't stress over it. They mainly just talk with you. Not like a third degree or anything.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
