Impatiently waiting...June sleevers?

Recommended Posts

I am so freaked out about the endoscopy. Like way more than the actual surgery.

omg I was too lol I didn't sleep last night and I almost cried waiting today but honestly you get in the room in maybe 5 secs your asleep and you wake up back in the room . I can't believe how scared I was when it was so easy

If my throat wasn't a little sore I would think I dreamed it lol

It can't be worse than a colonoscopy!! Lol! I have my psych consult next Wednesday and my two nutrition appts set up. All that is left is the endoscopy and a clearance from my PCP. I'm getting excited! It will be cool when I get my date!

I've also been lurking. I'm Rachel, 37 yr old in KY. I have a husband and 2 boys (4&6) who are wild and crazy. My surgeon won't even see you until you're done with all of your pre requisites and he's 99% sure you'll be approved. I finally get to see them next Tuesday and then they'll submit me for approval. I'm hoping for May/June surgery date.

Same set-up here. My paperwork was sent in to the insurance company yesterday (yikes!) and I still have not even met the surgeon. Weird.

Hello! I think I will be a June sleever as well. I am at the end of month 2 of 6 months Physician supervised diet for Insurance approval, so I figure my surgery would be in June. I have completed my baseline blood work panel, and I am scheduled for my sleep study next Thursday. I still need the psych eval and cardiac clearance, so I am trying to just nail one a month to keep from being out of work too much and to keep myself sane while I wait...lol.. My surgeon has not mentioned the endoscopy so I guess he doesn't require one.

One thing that has helped me with the wait is attending the local WLS support group. They welcome folks who have not had the surgery yet and they (at least the folks at my local group) are so welcoming and will answer your questions and love to share their stories. I have attended two and wouldn't want to miss one.

I am following this topic.

how did you find your local WLS group? I was wanting to find one in Phoenix, AZ. Thanks

I had my second nutrition appt this morning and got my post-op diet instructions. I also found out that it's a 2-night hospital stay, not just an overnight like I had thought. This is so inconvenient for me. I'm only telling my husband about the surgery, and we have 3 kids. An overnight was no big deal but 2 nights away is going to put quite a kink in our routine. I'm hoping school will still be in session so he'll only have to worry about the little one during the day and can still work from home. This could end up forcing me to have to tell my mom in case we need her help.

@@butterfly 56 I asked my surgeons office and they told me about the support group.

While we are talking about fears.. mine is getting an IV in. I have a real fear of it. :( It is always terrible for blood tests, had one blow out during my hysterectomy. My surgeons nurse told me to drink lots of Water and drink a poweraid the day before to plump my veins. This actually worked for my blood work. Still a fear.

Congratulations to everyone for pressing on and getting the to-do's done!!

Does anyone from the Phoenix area know of a local WLS support group?

By the way I thought I better introduce myself because I have been lurking in background, too. My name is Kim I am 57 years old, happily married for 39 years, I live in the "Valley of the Sun" which is the greater Phoenix Arizona area. I have 3 children. 30, 27 & 26. The 2 older ones are married but no grandchildren. The youngest still lives at home while still in school. I have been overweight for 25+ years and have thought about WLS for years, but finally started looking into it a couple of months ago. Thanks for sharing this group with me. I think I am going to be a June Sleever.

I'm also at the same stage. My last monthly appointment is in May. I've finished all the testing that my surgeon and/or insurance requires (colonoscopy, upper gi, endoscopy, psych eval, labwork, pap within last two years, mammogram within last two years, and I'm already on a vpap for apnea).

Sigh. Look how optimistic I was there! My insurance doesn't count the first visit with the surgeon as part of the six-month nutrition program. So my last appointment won't be until June. Which means my surgery will likely be July. I was hoping for June for many reasons, one being that the company I work for is moving in July, and I wanted to have it done and take the time off before the move.

Blah.

My surgery date got changed from the 24th of June to the 16th of June. My doctor was leaving town and I really didn't want to switch surgeons. Crossing my fingers the apnea doctor can get me in sooner.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
