Band removal surgery

Recommended Posts

I just had my band removed due to port complications 6 days ago. I have been recovering nicely but I still feel like I have a lot of restriction, just like the band is still in place. Has anyone had their band removed and had similar issues.

What I want to know is, is this normal and if so, how long does it usually last before things go back to normal.

I had my band removed in Nov, recovery went fine but i can still only eat small amounts at a time (small compared to what i could have eaten before the band). I assume my stomach has become smaller. I am having vsg in 10 days so i figure i am already prepared for smaller volumes.

I have had my band for 5 years and had all Fluid removed 14 months ago. I still feel I have restrictions and continue to throw up on occasion when eating apples or just random foods. Since my Fluid was removed, I have lost 55 lbs and now have an appointment with Lapband surgeon to check on having band removed. Wanting to know the recovery time for removal of band (NOT converting to the sleeve) and if anyone experienced any problems after the surgery.

I had mine out just two weeks ago today. It was a very simple procedure and there were no complications. When I spoke with my surgeon last week he told me I could feel the restriction for up to a year post-op as I wait for the swelling of the stomach to go down. The recovery from the surgery itself was pretty quick - back to work today...

Interesting!

I think it has to do with scar tissue buildup putting pressure around your esophagus

Hopefully it will go away but if not it might be. Blessing lol. The benefits of restriction without the complications of a band

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
