Pain Ranking: C-Section vs. Sleeve

Recommended Posts

Prefacing this by saying I absolutely know that everyone is different. Naturally. This question is driven out of pure curiosity for EACH PERSON's experience, who wishes to share.

If you ever had a c-section, and then you had VSG surgery, which surgery IN YOUR EXPERIENCE was more painful to recover from? How would you compare the two in regards to post-surgical pain? Which did you think was harder to recover from?

I have had THREE C-sections (plus on vaginal... 4 kids total) and ABSOLUTELY the VSG was a much, much easier recovery. And also much less post-op pain. That was my experience.

Mine was the opposite. I had one C-section and it was a cake walk. Recovery was easy, never took anything but ibuprofen. VSG took me a little longer to recover and I took pain meds for a day or two. Even though I'm ranking it worse, I still thought it was pretty easy.

I had a much easier time recovering from my sleeve surgery. I had to take pain meds for a week after my c-section and only took pains meds during my night stay at the hospital after the sleeve surgery.

That being said, after the c-section, I was breastfeeding my baby. He would only latch on while I was laying down (for the first week; it got much easier, thank goodness!), so switching sides was horrendous! I was also up every few hours at night to feed him. After the sleeve surgery, I rested in bed and my husband took care of the baby. It could be the difference was what occurred after the fact.

C/s because of the incision line. I am a sleeve vet but I am also a labor and delivery RN. If you have more then 1 c/s the second hurts even more because of scar tissue .

I have mixed remarks. Immediately post- op I had a much harder time after my VSG than I did either of my c- sections. I hurt more in my abdomen, had a horrific headache, and was so nauseous. By about four days out from my VSG I was having less pain than I was at that point in my c- section recoveries.

To add a little humor I'll tell you my experience at the hospital. I was joking before surgery that at least last time I had surgery I got to take a baby home. Well wouldn't you know I got stuck on the floor in a room on the post partum unit (where women who just had their c- section babies go to recover). So I heard babies crying all day and all night. I was amazed at the irony! The good thing is I adore babies so it was all good :)

I've had 3 c sections and they were easy compared to the sleeve! I was in a ton of pain after the sleeve! I have a high pain tolerance but the sleeve put me on my a$& for 2 weeks! I had a hernia repair at same time so I always wondered if that was it.

I've had 3 C-sections - my first was the very worst - but that was 25 years ago... with each one it got easier, but I'd say they were still more painful than the sleeve..

@@cejiogu, that is interesting. I've had two c-sections, and my second was, BY FAR, easier and less painful than my first. My sister had three, and also said the same thing, that each one got easier, not more painful!

Reviving for more opinions! I had a c-section in June 2014 and my sleeve surgery is in 2 days. Hoping that if I can make it through the csection pain that the sleeve won't be as difficult as I have it in my mind.

Good question!! I have not had wls yet but I've had 4 c sections and was wanting to know the pain comparison between the two. My c sections were painful but not overwhelmingly so. The biggest issue I had was Constipation. I keep trying to relive my c section pain (which I had 8 months ago) so I can be mentally prepared for wls pain. I imagine the pain will be about the same...I have a high pain tolerance so I'm sure that will help.

I'm hoping for a May surgery so its coming up pretty quickly and if it actually is about the same as my c section I should be ok ????

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
