I am finishing up the last of my appointsment. I have my pych eval. on tomorrow, then one more appointment with my doctor before they submit all the paperwork to my insurance company for approval. During this process, I found out that I have sleep apnea and high blood pressure. I thought I did not have any comorbities. So I'm little afraid of these things. However, I am starting to get anxious about having the surgery. I kind of wish it would be over already. I'm ready to start losing weight and moving on the next chapter of my life. Here are some things I worry about:

Will I be able to loose as much weight as I need to?

Will I be able to control my eating?

Will there be a lot of pain after surgery?

Will I be able to get my mind in the right place to stay healthy?

Please any advice would be great!

Thanks,

Mo

Still a newbie, can only answer about the pain. I can't lie I was in a lot of pain right out of surgery and had the moments of "what did I do to myself" but with every nap I felt better and better. I'm 9 days out and have been pain free for awhile.

My answer to all four questions has been yes. It's hard to explain how the surgery helps curb all those food issues. You just don't have room to eat like you did before surgery. But, you also have to want to stay focused. It's real easy to gain weight eating sliders.......chips, pretzels, Cookies etc. all go down and feel real nice. You still have to discipline yourself to follow the high Protein low carb diet.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
