Goodbye 38's, hello 36's!

Recommended Posts

I moved into size 36 jeans today after a brief 2 week stint in 38's! I'Ve been in tight 42-44's for the last 8 years so this is the best feeling in the world. The fact that it happened in the middle of a 2 week weight stall is even better.

I can't describe how much this changes my "head" in making me realize I am really going to be successful with this surgery. After so many failed diets and weight loss trials over the years I guess I just got programmed to expect eventual failure. This sleeve is changing my body as well as my head and I'm beginning to feel like I now have a tool that is more effective than anything else out there.

Looking forward to 34's. Think I'll Celebrate by going to the gym!

I don't like you! :) I'm 14 days post-surgery, down 30 pounds and still in the same damn pants... I swear all the weight has come off my face, shoulders, and legs. Pants are definitely looser, but not quite ready to drop down in size.

Seriously, congrats - sounds like things are going great for you and its a great feeling. What part of Florida are you in? I'm actually going with a friend from Weston to Mexico for his surgery in a couple weeks.

Mike...Congrats, Dude!!! It's a great feeling!!!

If I've said this once, I've said it a thousand times...PLEASE don't make the same mistake I did!!! I got so excited that I got out of my 44 - 46 pants and into 36's that I went on a damned shopping spree!!! And then about 2 months later, THEY were all too big and I had to give them all away!!! Don't invest in a true wardrobe until you get down your comfortable goal weight, which you most definitely WILL achieve!!!

Once again...congrats, my man...keep up the good work!!!

Fantastic Mike! Congrats.

I think I'll go check one of my old pairs of 36's just for fun...

ETA: I don't even own any 36's!!!

But thanks to you I found out that I have now dropped from 46's to 38's.

I'll take that.????

Congratulations, Mike!!! It is a wonderful feeling when your clothes get too big for you and it's time to downsize :) I've transitioned from 24/26 slacks and 3X tops to 22 slacks and 2X/1X tops and sweaters. For me, it takes about 20 lbs. to lose a size, but with exercising, the inches are changing even when the scale doesn't. Find you a great consignment shop for transitional clothes. I finally went shopping last weekend for a couple pairs of slacks for work and some tops to go with them. Most were purchased at a nearby consignment shop and the slacks were on sale at 70% off - couldn't resist a $10 pair of slacks! So I bought two pairs - sizes 20 and 18 since those sizes are on the horizon. Seems like I've read on BariatricPal about a clothes swap for those of us who need to get new sizes and get rid of the old sizes. I'll have to look into that option.

Again, congratulations and keep up the great work!! :D

sweet bro!!! I am in same boat. that is a true victory right there. My wake up moment for getting serious about weight loss was when my uniform pants 44" could no longer button. it takes forever to get new ones shipped. 5 months post op I am wearing 38". I have a pair of 36" that button, but a few more pounds will make them oh so nice. couldn't even imagine a 34" I was a 36" in high school. (many many moons ago)

awesome work. keep it up.

I'm in NW Florida near Pensacola.

I was in the same boat as you for the first six weeks. Was losing everywhere but the pants weren't getting smaller. The last 3 weeks though it started to change. (Sleeved Dec 10). Maybe it will play out the same way for you.

Ditto to the other comments about not going crazy and buying a new wardrobe just yet. I thought a 36 was skinny and i would never be smaller than that and now 32 is loose on me (started at a 48).

No telling how much i have spent on clothes over the year...good problem to have, but hold out as long as possible until you stabilize.

Congrats! Ain't it a good feeling. I started at a 46 when I had my sleeve on 12/22. Now in 38s that r too big, but I'm not quite in 36s yet. Getting closer though. Thank goodness for thrift stores. I'm in clothes for 2 weeks and they become loose.

Today was a pleasant surprise, in two different stores, I was looking for size 34 trousers and two different salesmen looked at me and said, you should try 32!

Congrats!! Loosing weight is great but seeing it in the cloths you wear confirms what we did was worth it!

I know what your feeling -- 10 Months ago I went to the hospital in my 46 Relaxed Fit Blue Jeans - I am now walking around in pretty loose fitting 36 Regular Fit Jeans and am just waiting for them to wear out a bit more before purchasing some new 34's.

Ready - congrats. I'm curious - GUYS ONLY - What was your shape before and how/where did you tend to lose weight first? I am down almost 40 pounds after 8 weeks, but have only gone down 1 pants size. I am taller and carried my weight all over my body. It seems like the vast majority of my weight lost has been face, shoulders, butt, and legs. GUYS - just curious how/where you tended to lose weight? My doctor said you tend to lose weight in the reverse order you put it on, which I guess would be holding mostly true for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
