????????my overall experienceSo surgery was a success!

Not thrilled with St. Barnabas at all, nurses amazing actually hospital seems cluttered and a bit u organized. ????While in OR they were strapping me down, talking, looking and complaining about how rooms were not set up properly and missing what they needed. I've had many surgeries and usually get to OR and switch tables get a quick ok what's ur name verification, and then the anesthesiologist usually will tell me to start counting and I go to sleep then wake up and recovery. This time I must've sat there for over 20 minutes while they look for items got me set up and my anxiety was out of control. After or recovery section they brought me to my room and I was so very nauseous and a we entered room I was so outta it I thought it smelt like cigarettes and they parked my bed and I almost puked. Rang for nurse in a daze crying cause gagging was causing stomach pain ( unnecessary ) to get me outa room someone was definitely smoking. They came in they took me out of room said she was in the bathroom smoking with her boyfriend. As I overheard him tell her they already told her the day before no smoking. Needless to say this was approximately 4 PM in the afternoon so they knew the room smelt like cigarettes and was dirty and still attempted to put me in there like I was an idiot and that is so unsanitary. That's away and hallway for 30 to 40 minutes for a new room. Pain meds made me dry heave and more sick so I stuck to only nausea meds. That medicine made it even worse I asked for them to call the doctor to see what else could be done and they were able to bring me back to the OR and give me two more tap blocks in my stomach to numb it. It's now a week later and I saw my doctor Wednesday and he said alls well incision is swollen bruised and that I need to rest but all went well with surgery. Into puréed foods and it's only week two and Wednesday I can start regular if I still don't have pain while eating. Just pain from actual surgery. Have to go back in three weeks sooner if incision or back worsens or if swelling and incision pain gets worse. So far I am doing well with the adjustments but the one incision in right the stomach actually came out of still hurts a whole lot, but I'm also full time mommy and have been busy with my baby and other kids, cooking, cleaning, homework etc. I guess if I was a couch potato for a week I'd be 100% but I can't ???? life is good and I am officially down 26 pounds!! ????

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
