Favorite Liquid Diet Food/Drink

Recommended Posts

My surgery is scheduled for 3/3/15 and I have to start my liquid diet on 2/17. What was your favorite thing to eat/drink during this phase?

How exciting! I'm still pending for insurance authorization, but hoping for March surgery as well! I've been trying so many different kinds of Proteins trying to get ready for this. The one I've liked the most has been Isopure. Good luck! :-)

Premier Protein shakes are my favorite, and also seems to be a favorite of quite a few people. I hated making shakes, so I liked having the "grab and go" aspect of the Premier Protein Shakes. They taste good (the chocolate tastes like a thicker chocolate milk), plus you can find them at Kroger's, costco, Sam's Club, Wal Mart...I just like being able to pick up more when I need them instead of ordering them. I still drink one for Breakfast every morning at 5 1/2 months out.

I got sick of regular broth on my liquid diet so I'd stop by the hibachi restaurant and order a quart of their clear Soup. It was my little treat on Clear liquids. Other than that the Isopure Protein drinks, chicken broth with a beef boullion cube, and the Oh Yeah! shakes if I needed something sweet.

I drank the broth from wonton Soup. It was satisfying, filling, and flavorful. I haven't tried it yet post-op. I'm too afraid to hate it. As for the Protein, I drank the chocolate Bariatric Advantage blended with half a banana and/or a little instant coffee and then put in the freezer until Ice cold. It was the only tolerable way.

Forgot to add: adding lemon pepper to regular broth was great.

I like Premier Protein shakes. chocolate is my favorite, but when you can add ingredients, the Premier Protein in strawberry and vanilla are good too. Unjury makes a good strawberry sorbet flavor. The "whey" drinks weren't for me, but try as mant as you can.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the suggestions, I have been drinking the Premier Protein shakes for breakfast for the last couple months and enjoy them.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
