Celebrities with lap band

Recommended Posts

I saw Ann Wilson on VH-1 Rock Honors and she does seem to have regained a lot of her weight. She had the lap-band outside the US before the procedure was approved here. Does anyone know if she had it removed? No matter what, she is still the same vocal powerhouse as always!

Was she with Wynona? I saw that too and thought it was an old one, was it a recent show, I know I saw it last night but I mean was it a rerun? I thought I had seen it before. I hope for her sake she hasn't regained it all. But yeah she will always be one of my favorites.

VH-1 Rock Honors was new last Sunday. Inductees besides Heart were Genesis and ZZTop. You can watch the videos at VH1.com. Gretchen Wilson (I think that's her name) did an awesome tribute song and Heart did two songs, Straight On and Crazy. Speaking of awesome--I just noticed your weight loss. Sweet!

Thanks so much, I have some left to lose but I'll take what I have so far! I saw something while I was drifting in and out on the couch last night and Ann And Nancy were singing with Wynona and she was big I just wondered if that was the show you were talking about. Gretchen Wilson is cool, I don't live far from Nashville so I know a little about Country Music, I think it is a requirement, lol.

Look what I found:

''In light of recent attention involving paid celebrity endorsements, CNN became aware that some celebrities we interviewed about their health problems might be paid,'' said Sarah Cohn, a CNN spokeswoman. ''We decided it was important for our viewers to be aware of that as part of any future interviews or features about a celebrity.''

Executives at CBS say they also may have overlooked some celebrities' ties to medical companies. ''This is a brand new thing,'' said Marcy McGinnis, the senior vice president in charge of news coverage at CBS News. Ms. McGinnis said producers at CBS had not looked into the financial ties of the rock singer Ann Wilson of the band Heart, to Inamed, a company that makes a medical device for the obese. A July 18 segment on ''The Early Show'' featured the musician and her doctor, Brian B. Quebbemann. ''The Early Show'' ran part of a taped interview with Ms. Wilson where she said Inamed's Lap-band, a silicon band that is fastened around the stomach during surgery, was ''a beautifully simple idea.'' Dr. Quebbemann performed the Lap-band surgery on Ms. Wilson in January. Inamed, through Spotlight Health, a firm that specializes in creating celebrity marketing campaigns for medical companies, paid Ms. Wilson to promote the Lap-band."

on Courtney from Page Six of the Post:

April 12, 2007 -- IS Courtney Love not telling the whole truth about her dramatic weight loss? Love insists her fabulous new figure is due to diet and exercise, but a friend said, "She's telling people she got the gastric band surgery. She even said she had to sleep with a towel by her because the surgery makes her [vomit] all the time and is worried she won't be able to make out with anyone because of her breath." But a rep for Love, who says she's dragged him to healthy macrobiotic restaurants, insists, "Not true. She says she never got surgery." Either way, she looks great.

Lapdancer,

Oh Ann, say it isn't so!! I just read Khaliah Ali's book, and I bet she was also paid. Her surgeons co-wrote part of the book and one of them dedicates the book to the inventor of the Lap-Band.

It seems to imply that Ann Wilson got the band fairly recently. I first read about her band in a People magazine in a doctor's office that I quit going to in 2002. She said that she sought out the band when she adopted a child. I went home and immediately read about the procedure on the Internet and it was definitely not available in the US. Strange........

You're a resourceful one, Lap Dancer!

The band was FDA approved in June 2001. So it was available in 2002. ~Mandy

When I saw the show on the Osborne's, the doc described Sharon's procedure as "sectioning" the stomach and sewing the band in. Did anyone else get that?

Mandy,

I went to that physician for 8 years. I read about it in his office sometime during those 8 years. At the time the lap-band was not approved for use in the United States.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
