How much is too much?

Recommended Posts

Hi to all! I'm 6 weeks post op. How many ounces is everyone eat per meal and how many meals per day? I don't want to eat too much...there are times I feel like I'm eating too much. So how is everyone else handling this. 1/2 cup? 1 cup? 3 4 5 times a day?

It really depends on WHAT you are eating. There's a big difference between a cup of cottage cheese and a cup of chicken. I'm 5 months post op and my typical day is:

Breakfast: Protein Bar

Morning Shack: Reduced Fat String cheese

Lunch: 2-3 ounces of meat (usually leftovers from a previous dinner)

Afternoon Snack: Light Greek Yogurt with a little granola on top

Dinner: 3-4 ounces of meat (whatever the Protein is from what my husband cooks for dinner)

Evening Snack: Protein Bar

dinner is usually my "biggest" meal in terms of quantity. Depending on what we are having I can usually get close to 4 ounces.

I agree with jamielogical there's is a wide range between the types of foods.

I'm 5 months post op and I can eat the amount s of the following. ..

chicken 1/4 cup or 1 ounce

Fish 1/4 cup or 1 ounce

Beef 1/4 cup or 1 ounce

Soup 1 cup

stew 1/2 cup

Spaghetti 1/2 cup

In general the more liquidy the food, the more I can eat

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
