Hi I'm new here , considering gastric sleeve, I'm 26 I am pregnant with my 3 child due in July I am 5"4 and currently 220 pounds. With each pregnancy I have just gained gained gained ! After this child I don't plan on having more but definitely plan on loosing weight. I have been overweight for most of my life and I am unhappy and uncomfortable with the way I look and feel. I honestly can say that I am embarrassed of seeing people that I use to see when I was at a lower weight. I hate shopping and going out because I am ashamed that I have let this happen. Thank god I don't have any other health issues (yet) but want to be healthy for my kids and for myself

Thanks for hearing my vent

Welcome! Sounds like you are a ways off from being able to start the process, but it's good that you are looking into it already. It will give you plenty of time to do research, ask questions, and learn everything you can. Are you planning to breast feed once the baby is born? If so, I would hold off on the actual surgery until after you are done with that, but you could start the pre-op approval process and consult with surgeons during that time. Once you actually schedule surgery and start the pre-op diet, breastfeeding would probably be unsafe, since you will likely not be getting sufficient Vitamins and nutrients for a while.

Yes I plan to breastfeed , I can't ge th the surgery until 6months after , it seems like forever but I can't wait. I'm doing my research and honestly it really freaks me out to read some of the complications.

While there are potential for complications with any surgery, WLS is one of the safest surgeries around. The mortality rate is lower than knee replacement.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
