March 2-Achieve in 2015 Begins

Recommended Posts

Ok, this is my first post but I've been reading/lurking for a few of weeks. I'm preparing for my bypass surgery which is scheduled for 3/2/2015. I have my pre-op surgery appointment on Monday, 2/16. I begin the 2 week pre-surgery diet on 2/17/2015.

I'm a 40+ yo mother of 4, married for 16 years to a man who has never thrown my weight in my face or used it in any way against me. He is very supportive and he's almost as excited as I am. I've had a weight problem since I was around 11, and I can relate to a lot of the stories I've read on here.

My focus is to, "Achieve in 2015!" I'm open to any suggestions or recommendations, helpful hints and the like. I am so excited and although I'm keeping this choice under wraps from the general public I have an incredible support system in place with family and friends that have walked the journey of getting approved with me. My children are excited as well, they are my best cheerleaders when I want to quit!

Hard to believe that in 3 weeks I will be at home recovering!

How exciting. It's been great to connect with people who have gone before me on this journey as well as those walking the same path as I am! Let's definitely connect!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
