Chinese food ok when?

Recommended Posts

I'm talking post surgery. When is it OK to try a bite or two of pepper steak or chicken with the very cooked very soft green peppers and onions.

I'm 3 weeks out and hoping the doc and nut will ok it starting after 4 weeks at my next appt. But curious to everyone else.

I was not allowed steak until after 6 weeks.

I would wait as long as humanly possible before jumping into junky fast food type stuff though.

I'm 5 months out and haven't touched chinese/pizza/etc.

ETA not that I've been perfect! But I have stuck to "real" type foods mostly :P Also a few tortilla chips here and there :P

I wouldn't eat Steak. I had Moo Goo Gai Pan, with Egg Drop Soup. And another time had Seafood Delight, (shrimp, fish, scallops and vegetables), with Wonton Soup. Didn't eat the rice.

Are you talking about chinese food per se or americanized chinese style fried fast food?

I've has seitan (japanese "wheat" meat for vegetarians) in various asian dishes - with loads of fresh veggies, hold the oil, no rice since I've been on solids without a problem.

I was allowed chicken long before I was allowed steak. But only ground/shredded chicken until I was on solids, which was 40 days post-op. I was allowed cooked, soft vegetables at 28 days post-op.

The first thing I had was egg foo yung at about 4 weeks out. Had no problems. I have Hot and Sour Soup and some type of chicken and vegetables every couple of weeks.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
