Second fill yesterday.....advice?

Recommended Posts

I had lap band placed on November 13. I went in yesterday for my second fill. I have a total of 4 ml. I have lost 29 lbs since surgery. My doc recommends liquids for 24 hr after fill. Yesterday it seemed ok, but today seems incredibly tight. I feel restricted even with Water. It goes down, but I can definitely feel it. I haven't tried anything solid. Yesterday I had a couple Protein Shakes, and so far today only water. Should I give it a few days to adjust or have a little removed? I felt no restriction with my first fill so this is foreign to me. Im okay waiting a little to see if I get used to it, but a little afraid it will only feel tighter.

You can give it a couple of days as long as you are able to drink. Just remember that if this is your first time with restriction you might go from liquids to soft foods to regular and don't forget your tiny bites and chewing to mush. Best wishes!

I'm still able to drink, and I just tried some Soup and it seems ok so I'm gonna wait it out a little. I think it's just cause its a new sensation for me. Thank you!

It's a very strange feeling when you are first dealing with it

Gosh, I'm at 3.75 and ate a whole can of roast beef and a bag of steamed veggies, beginning to wonder if I even have a band

Give it time, your probably tighter than you think. If you haven't worked up to regular foods you won't know where u are at

I've only had one fill and most days I wonder if I even have a band. My band only has 1.0 cc of Fluid in it. What I was told after my first fill is that the stomach area is swollen and irritated for a few days after a fill and that you'll feel very tight for a while. Then it loosens up after that and gets more comfortable. I go in for my second fill this week and hope to feel a little more satisfied between meals. I can only go about three hours and I'm really ready to eat! They're really going slow with me and so my weight loss is going slow too. I'm thrilled to have lost what I have, but I have so far to go I wish things would speed up.

As soon as I worked up to solid food, then BOOM....I got a stomach virus and puked for 2 days. ????. My band is extremely tight after that, but was able to eat some veggie Soup yesterday after some dissolvable zofran.

Definitely take your time and be patient! I've had to have my band unfilled and refilled and it does get frustrating. But I remind myself, I didn't gain all the way over night and I'm not going to loose it over night either. This is a good place to be when you are feeling discouraged! Just stay positive and you will feel better and see results!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
