I found out today after some complications and several weeks of trial and error that my Lap Band is partially prolapsed. I had all the Fluid removed 2 1/2 weeks ago and got by just fine. I didn't loose any weight, but didn't gain any either. I went back today and they put in .5 cc of fluid to try to start over and see how far we can get without having to reposition or replace the band. I am scheduled to go back in 2 weeks to have an additional .5 cc inserted. I was up to 2.6 cc when all this started in March. Have any of you had this complication? I have done great, have lost 90 pounds as of today's 7 month anniversary. I am quite distressed this evening and pretty scared. Would appreciate anyone's first hand knowledge of how they handled this problem.

Thanks for listening.

Terri, I think that's another way of saying you have a slip. The only advice I have is to take it VERY easy with the refills. You might even want to stop here and see how that goes for a year or so. People who have had unfills seem to need much less Fluid to find restriction, and it's extremely easy to get too tight almost by mistake.

Good luck!!

Thanks for the info. What was there reasoning for leting you go without the band for a couple months. When I talked to my doctor yesterday, I was under the inpression they would attempt to reposition my current band or just replace it with one surgery. How is your insurance company reacting to all of this?

Thanks again

Terri

I guess they felt that a healing period was necessary, but now I'm really regretting that they didn't replace it right then. I'm sure it will all work out for the best, but at the moment my insurance company is denying the request for precert for the replacement surgery; my BMI is too low and I don't qualify medically for bariatric surgery. My doctor's office is trying to convince them that it should be considered continuation of ongoing treatment for a managed condition, rather than a new placement.

I should find out today.

That is exactly what I am worried about. I even had a conversation with my Dr about that fact. My BMI is in the middle 20s now, so I don't qualify either.

Thanks

Terri

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
