bkp123 5 Posted February 10, 2015 Had my endoscopy yesterday and apparantely I have ulcers. I never knew that I had them and am trying to figure out what caused them. They presribed me medication to take daily that will hopefully clear them up. Did anyone have this issue and if so, did it slow down or stop your chances at getting sleeved? chubbsey1 126 Posted February 10, 2015 It depends on when your surgery is they have to heal your stomach before they can operate. They found ulcers during my first Endo they treated them with nexium/Prilosec cocktail scoped me again ulcers were gone and my surgery is next Tuesday. Good luck. bkp123 5 Posted February 10, 2015 Thank you chubbsey1...how long did they take to clear up - i .e, months, weeks, etc? I am worried mine were caused from taking tylenol and excedrin...I will not take them anymore and will take the meds they gave me to clear up the ulcers but hopefully it wont take too long. I'm on month 4 of 6 and was hoping to get the surgery by April or May...
chubbsey1 126 Posted February 10, 2015 (edited) Bkp I'm not a Dr. But I think you should be fine, mine cleared up in a little over a month. Edited February 10, 2015 by chubbsey1

Kristen77 23 Posted February 10, 2015 I just had the scope done last week and they found ulcers on me as well. Had no idea, gave me meds and still going forward with surgery which is scheduled March 5th.
bkp123 5 Posted February 10, 2015 Kristen77 - Ok, that makes me feel better. I assume that we will have to go back in for another scope prior to surgery to make sure that the ulcers have healed, etc. Please share how that goes with you.

I'm on month 4 of 6 and was hoping to get the surgery by April or May... Before I had my knees replaced I took Celebrex and other meds daily for pain and inflammation. These are notoriously hard on the stomach. I was placed on Nexium at the same time to prevent ulcers from forming. Worked great! Had a perfectly clear scope before sleeve surgery ???? I would not think the Tylenol would be an issue but the Excedrin could very well be. I guess it would depend on how often your were taking them. Talk to your GI doc. Kristen77 23 Posted February 10, 2015 Bpk124, they haven't mentioned anything about going back for another scope. I have my final meeting with my doctor Feb 26. If anything changes I will let you know.
shellyd88 463 Posted February 11, 2015 Excedrine is notorious for causing ulcers as well as other pain relievers they can also be caused by a bacteria called h pylori most ppl I've talked to that have had this endoscopy have been told they have ulcers some worse than others it seems pretty common u will be given meds to heal it up it likely won't delay your surgery at all if so not by too much try not to worry
