mae7365 372 Posted February 10, 2015 I went to my support group meeting last night and this was discussed. I'd say to check with your doctor, but the 1-3 year post op members were saying they take Aleve, Advil, Motrin etc. The discussion basically said those types of NSAID were off limits while your stomach is healing, but ok once you are back to being able to eat anything. BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted February 10, 2015 Yes the common theory is no NSAIDS because it causes increased exposure of the stomach lining to acid. This can result in pain, ulcers, bleeding, and perforation. Gastric bypass patients are much more susceptible to this than people who have not had this type of bariatric surgery. Sleeve gastrectomy patients can tolerate NSAIDs much easier than patients who have had gastric bypass. Adjustable gastric band patients can also experience discomfort or ulcer formation with NSAID use. That said if you have medical condition that can only be controlled by an NSAID, you need to work with your doctor so that he can monitor you to make sure you don't suffer further negative effects.
