Damn did I really do this?

Recommended Posts

So I had surgery on Thursday February 5th, currently 4 days post op. I notice the scars and have exceptional gas pains. I can barley sleep because any position is impossible to feel comfortable in. Ive already taken so much of my medicine for pain and I dont want to use it all up before its too late. So really im just at an impass. I dont regret the surgery but im so confused. Im still hungry and im trying to get in almost all my liquids and moved to protien shakes. I want to take the right steps and not rush anything. I guess im hitting that

"Buyers Remorse" area. Any tips on how to get past this? Im returning to work on February 23rd only because I know I couldn't handle starting a new job and not having the ability to eat soft foods and function correctly.

Mine was the day before yours. I found that putting pillows on each side of me made it comfortable for me to sleep on my sides

Time will heal. Sorry that's all I got it took me about 2 weeks to start feeling normal. I don't want to be a downer but I certainly want you to know the truth. Good luck!

I'm 11 days post op and I think last night was the first night that I actually slept normally. It takes a while but each day gets a little better. Keep your head up, in a week or so you'll feel like a totally different person!

Walk as much as you are able to for the gas. Don't worry about the buyer's remorse... I remember thinking "How dumb was THIS! I had a PERFECTLY good stomach, now why did I have to go and mess with it!!!" I'm 4 1/2 months out now and can eat anything, just a small amount. The discomfort will pass and you will be amazed how much better you feel!

You won't feel any restriction for several weeks -- you're "eating" only liquids right now, which slide right on down, leaving your new tummy empty.

Believe me, when you start eating Proteins you will DEFINITELY feel the restriction. :)

Your buyers remorse will leave, too. It's just something you have to go through. It may last a few hours, a few days. There's just no way to anticipate what it feels like to realize that you willingly let a surgeon cut out 85% of your stomach. Don't get me wrong ... you'll get used to the idea real fast. But understanding the theory of that simply does not fully anticipate the reality of doing it.

Best to you. :)

I didn't have a perfectly good stomach - mine was WAY too big and hungry all the time so I am thrilled it was reduced. :)

It does get better... sip sip sip... dehydration is one of the most miserable feelings in the world so keep hydrated! walk walk walk... helps with gas. I slept in a recliner the first week or two. I remember coming home from the hospital and making the mistake of lying down on the bed - the only time I cried! The pain from the muscle repair/hernia repair about killed me when I engaged those ab muscles. Recliner solved THAT!

Try to distract yourself because sometimes the thinking about it makes things worse. Visualize the positive, long term life improving benefits, rather than focusing on the short term discomfort.

Hang in there - it really does get better!

I tried to walk every hour around the house. I hated it but I still did it. Everything everyone has said is true and make sure even when you do feel better not to over due it. Funny thing is the first couple of weeks I used to have nightmares that I forgot that I had the surgery and ate chips and ruined my sleeve. Well I am 3 months and 1 week out and things are great. I don't have any dumping issues and no regrets. (No more nightmares either) Give yourself the first month to just focus on getting healed.

Good luck-

LA

Thank you all. You know when your in the moment you feel like the only person in the world experiencing this pain. So many have gone before me and so many will after me. Its hard to sometimes look outside of the moment. But you all have helped me in some way. Thankful for the support!

You definately got this. I felt the same way last week the couple days after surgery. I was thinking what did I do to myself but it will pass. This place really helped me get through it.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
