So I was following this guy on Instagram.. Not anymore.. He lost 200 lbs.. According to him the hard way.. And even tho he didn't have surgery he was an inspiration.. I like his workouts etc... Well he posted a pic of a before and after.. And the caption read " hard work.. No surgeries.. No easy way" WHAT? Getting cut open and having ur insides rearrange easy? Learning how to eat all over again... Easy? Let's not even get into getting approved.. My husband gave me the easy way out speech and I flipped on him and now he's a cheerleader... I will not let anyone minimize my hard work.. Mind you I haven't had surgery yet.. But beware!!! I will flip on you!! Politely of course ????

I'm sassy so I'm probably going to respond with,"Oh you mean you did it the statistically less successful and more temporary way? I hope it works for you the next time you do it "the hard way" again"

Congrats on your surgery date!! I know the anticipation is building and driving you kinda crazy lol and it will increase as your date approaches. You are a lot stronger than I was when I was in your position. I had no family support before I had the procedure. Your determination is dope. Before you know it, it will be over and done.

I think the general public needs more education! My family thought I was CRAZY to get Gastric Bypass surgery. Last year, I was so heavy that I was crushing my knees and could barely walk without a cane. Now my family sees the HUGE difference and I can easily walk miles. They have realized that the surgery was not a quick fix. I worked hard and struggled but I am happy and that's all that really matters... you do your thing!

Nothing easy about a surgical route. I think we know the yo-yo's of traditional dieting and have made the choice to make sure this loss lasts. I personally want to be there for my family, and not just emotionally. I want to be able to experience life. I don't want the diabetes, hbp, aches and pains. So I did something about it that is going to last. I don't have to just dream anymore about someday and think in the back of my head it may never happen.

While it is not all lollipops and rainbows, we are having our stomachs surgically reduced so that we may lose weight. I imagine that someone who spent hours at a gym, and modifying their behaviors to achieve weight loss, looks at our choice as easy. The reasons we have surgery are many, but for most people who do go the surgery route, it's due to habitual poor dietary choices thst result in comorbid medical issues. With that said, I know this stste mentioned will ruffle feathers, but I see both sides, and own my past mistakes.

The easy way would be to keep eating ourselves to death. There's no question doing it through diet and exercise alone is the hard way, since only about 5% of people keep the weight off, but that doesn't mean that getting surgery is the easy way. After 20+ years of dieting failures, for me, I'd say it's the smart way.

Coastalchick, I don't know about you, but I do spend hours at the gym and exercising at home (as I did pre-op). I have also modified my behavior as I think all of us have had to do post-op. My eating habits were excellent, my doctors were pleased. Yet, I was morbidly obese. I tried it the "hard" way. If it works for them, great. It didn't work for me, no matter how much I tried. I had a gastric bypass. I'm still waiting for the easy part. I don't think that having to make sure I get enough Protein in everyday is the easy way. Not when I have to have 60 grams and I can only hold 2 ounces three times a day

Sorry, I hit the wrong key.

I also have to find the time to get in 80+ ounces of Water while not drinking 30 minutes before or after a meal. I have to be careful so I don't have dumping. Yes, my stomach has been made much smaller, but, I don't, in any way, think that this is the easy way.

Ruffled feathers? Maybe just a few! ????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
