Pain above pubic area. 5 days post op

Recommended Posts

Hi I had my surgery for the sleeve on Thursday feb 5.. No pain other then gas. Haven't been sick etc. I had me sleeve done in Mexico. It was a 5 hr flight back. Brutal!! Anyway as of last night I started having very loose bowels. Some I didn't even make it to the washroom :( . It wasn't a big concern. However today I'm experiencing waves of pain above the pubic area . Taking my breath away. I'm currently waiting for a call from my surgeon but I'm scared to death. Being in Canada I'm afraid .. I'm hoping others have experienced this and it's normal .. Any input to put my mind at peace would be great!

I had the same thing a day or two after I got back from having my Mexico surgery. My pubic area cramps were really bad. I took ibuprofen and used a heating pad. The diarrhea is probably just your body getting rid of all the medications and fluids they put in you at the hospital.

I hope it's not anything more serious, but it's good that you're getting in to see a doctor. Because everyone is different, I can't tell you this will pass and not too worry, but my exact symptoms only last about 2 days.

Thank you Mary Beth .. Having surgery in Mexico is awesome but it also has its disadvantages. Not being able to see your surgeon :( .. I'm still waiting for the call back.. I've experienced this type of pain before my sleeve. Usually was something I ate or a plugged up bowel lol.. It's very intense and takes my breath away and I end up breathing like I'm in labour. It usually happens when I'm heading to the bathroom or after I went.. Crossing fingers it's all going to be good :)

Well I went to my family dr today because the bowel movements and pain were just to intense. I refuse to take painkillers( meditation) .. She told me to go get pedialite for dehydration. It seems to have settled down some . She also said it could be a lot of gas in my bowel causing the severe cramping in the lower abdominal. I literally have to breath thru the pain like labour pains.. Ughhhhh just wish this would pass. Hoping more people have some advice ... Devastated ????

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
