Converting from Sleeve to Bypass?

Recommended Posts

Im not exactly sure where to post this question since its kind of an in-between topic, so I apologize in advance if you see this in two locations….

For all those people who originally had the sleeve and were converted to the bypass, I was curious to know WHY? What was your journey?

For those who had to have this done do to gastritis, what was done for that before they jumped to conversion?

Did anyone have to have this done because of stomach spasms?

Good question. My surgeon has suggested I may "need" to convert in a few years since I have so much weight to lose and "could" stall out (in a permanent type way) but I am determined not to need it! *runs to the gym*

I'd be curious to know the answer too.

That's a great attitude to take! :) at least u know it may be an option tho. Odd that they are essentially saying the sleeve stops working

I know someone who had the bypass and gained most of her weight back so nothing is 100%

From what I've read though it doesn't really "stop" working or ever go back to your normal size. So I'm not sure. It's probably not that it would "stop" working for me but because of my starting weight I could have more difficulties than others getting to a reasonable goal weight? Idk! I am not worried about it. I just have to keep my gym bag packed! B)

Ive been warned this could happen to me as i developed GERD sice having the sleeve. Surgeon said if meds stop working this will be the next port of call for me - i pray this wont happen.

I've heard of it being done for gerd, but I've never heard of it being done for gastritis/esophageal spasms (which I have). I actually WANT to have this done because its miserable being in pain and never knowing when ill have a bad attack. But my surgeon hasn't mention anything but more testing (for what?) If this current treatment doesn't work (its not)

I really hope you don't have to get another surgery you don't want. Good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
