3rd time is a charm!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I have been thru this process before. My insurance has approved and last minute I backed out from the fear of anxiety, panic attacks, extra skin, looking sick and so on. I don't have much support. I am 35 with three kids that are very dependent on me as we don't have much family. I know that I hate my stomach. It's so affected me so much I have stopped having sex. I hate my body is gross. And I am ashamed of my hubby looking at me. I want to be content. But fear has paralyzed me. I saw my surgeon last week and was looking forward to getting the lap band but I was told that she would recommend the gastric sleeve as my BMI is 44. She said that the risk of the band are slimmer during the operation but they are higher as time goes on due to the foreign object in my body... So the sleeve it will be. I need motivation from those who have had the surgery.

Thanks guys. ????????????

I have to say this surgery was by far the easiest thing I have ever done. This was easier than my complete hysterectomy.

I would encourage you to start to love yourself now. Your body is not gross. Your body is beautiful. It brought 3 lives into this world. Contrary to what magazine would like us to believe there are no perfect people out there. Have this surgery to be healthy. To be the person you need to be in order to take care of your children. Love yourself for you.

Does your surgeon have support groups available that you can join? Or anything like that? Or maybe you could have a few sessions with a health psychologist? Not saying that online support doesn't help - I've found it very helpful - but I've been in a support group previously for anxiety and depression and it really helped a lot to have a group of the same folks to see for support and feedback.

Thank you. I currently see a therapist for my anxiety and marriage issues. But she has no clue that I am getting this done. I'm hoping to talk to her this week about it. There are support groups ️available will start joining soon. Thanks girl. ????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
