RWM 9 Posted February 9, 2015 I am calling my surgeon tomorrow but I'm 100% sure this is not for me. How does it work to get band removed? Thanks!
jacileggs 402 Posted February 9, 2015 Did you think this would be easy?
Sharpie 3,306 Posted February 9, 2015 did you already have surgery? if you just had it it is pretty common to feel like you made a mistake. however you owe it to yourself to give it a try. I thought I had really messed up the first few weeks after surgery but as time went on and I learned how to work my band it has been a blessing and the best thing I have ever done for my health. discuss your options with your surgeon and hopefully you can adjust to your new way of life soon. parisshel 1,892 Posted February 9, 2015 Are you asking how it works, sugery-wise, the get the band removed? This is best asked to your surgeon, but I would imagine they just go in and take it out. Like your intial surgery, but in reverse. I've read the post-op recovery is easier than when you have the band inserted. They go in using the same keyholes they used to install the band. thistledo2 0 Posted February 9, 2015 (edited) i had my band removed two weeks ago. It is almost the same as having it put in, except there arent the same food restrictions aftewards. The pain is very similar. I am having a lot of port pain again. My surgeon said they have to "dig the port out because it gets frozen in there". The band part is easily removed. I wish I hadnt been so quick to consider this a "reversible" surgery. It's not easily reversed. I hope the removal of your band goes smoothly. Yes, they do make the incisions in through the old scars. Edited February 9, 2015 by thistledo2
funky_monkey800 247 Posted February 9, 2015 @@RWM why are you having it removed? I am curious because it looks like you just got it? The road isn't easy......I have good days and bad days. What I can eat changes on a daily basis....sometimes everything goes down well, sometimes it doesn't go down easy at all.... This is a journey...I am listening to my body more than I ever have. I also for the first time in a long time feel in control of my body. I think if you throw the towel in already you may regret it. I don't know...maybe not. I love my band....is it hard? At times yes! Is it worth it? Absolutely! Good luck to you!
