How long after surgery could you tolerate meat?

Recommended Posts

As soon as I went to soft foods ( 4 weeks) I could have any of that if it was very moist. Fish was the hardest to eat. At six weeks I had the go-ahead for regular cooked foods and moderate spices. Just make sure that the meat is soft and moist, not dry. Eat small bites....chew well.....you know the deal. The hardest thing for me to add back was raw foods like apples, cole slaw, lettuce.....those things took all of six months - but I can eat that stuff too, now at 13 months.

I'm eating canned chicken and tuna fish and baked fish now at 10 days post op. Moist foods and very small bites and eat slowly and chew well.

I am 7 weeks post op and do well with chicken, fish and turkey. I never really liked beef so that's a non-issue for me. I have easy time with fruit and vegetables, but I tried bread once and it did not go down very well... however, muffin was fine.. Funny how the sleeve wants what it wants..

I added soft and well chewed meats at 3 weeks post op. Now I am almost four months out, and chicken works the best for me, especially if it is very moist and tender. I tried some roast last week, and some minor frothing after it. I don't think I took long enough to eat. Hamburger still really doesn't work well for me. I think it is too dry? I also have good luck with thinly sliced deli meats such as turkey or ham.
