Hi all!

What is the total amount of carbs I should have per day?

Thx!

Not everyone restricts their carb intake, but I do if I want to lose weight. I have hypothyroidism and sometimes have to restrict more than others to lose weight. I try to get below 15 carbs a day. If I go higher than that, then my weight loss will slow way down or come to a halt. I'm hoping that I can raise my carb limit once I hit maintenance. It's impossible to get in many fruits and vegetables when restricting carbs to such a low number. I've seen many others lose lots of weight without restricting carbs, so you have to do what works for you.

I keep my carbs at 50 or less on most days.

You can eat a lot of fruit and veggies and still be low carb. You just have to make good choices. An entire eggplant (about 1 lb) has about 10 carbs and 110 calories.

Don't now and never have focused on low carbs ... am only concerned not to go so low-carb that I wind up among the very small minority of VSG patients (3%) who suffer from post-bariatric reactive hypoglycemia.

It's a low risk, but you do NOT want to have that monkey climb up on your back.

Google it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
