Setting a goal weight

Recommended Posts

My dietician wants me to set a goal weight. My surgeon said that according to the antiquated medical chart they use that I should be 145# but at 5'11" that seems mighty low to me. I was 135# in high school and looked anorexic. Can anyone share how you decided on a realistic and healthy goal weight?

I am also 5'11 and I looked back at a time in my life where I was fit and happy and healthy. I was the captain of my tennis team in high school. I worked out all the time and felt great about how I felt and looked. I was 200-215 at that time in my life. (I am very large boned)

My surgeon was very happy when I suggested 199 as my final goal. I'm hoping to get to the 180s and then the 2-3 year slight gain will take me into the 195-199 range.

The charts say I should be around 160.... I think I'd look gross that thin. I can't even imagine the 140s

I am 5'8" and a normal BMI for me is 164. That is my goal. I am 3 pounds away! I am thin now, wear a size 8/10. I picked this goal with input from my physician, BMI calculator and my fitness pal. It's the perfect number I think for my height.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
