New sense of hunger pangs after VSG?

Recommended Posts

Hi there fellow sleevers.... when you compare what your hunger signals feel like before and now after sleeve, are they different?

Here's my reason for asking. ...I'm 5 months post op and have been chasing horrible pains in my throat that feel like a lumpy golfball. Extensive testing all negative, multiple hiatal hernia repair surgeries.... it's gotten drastic and really over the top. I am just now thinking I've got a reason. Maybe my hunger pains are now in my throat rather than mid abdomen. Interestingly enough, the pain that started slow and then unbearable ---> resolves after eating some bites of tuna and a cracker.

Did your hunger pang location shift? I'm hoping my mystery has now been resolved. I can't begin to explain the months of medical testing and surgery..... Crossing fingers.

My hunger pangs feel like a stabbing sensation in my sleeve. Nothing unbearable, just a bit uncomfortable. That's the only real way I know I'm hungry. I still get head hunger on occasion, but that is a totally different feeling and I can easily tell it from real hunger.

Very interesting. If it resolves after eating it might be a new hunger signal. I have been trying to figure mine out. Do the pains come and go? Are they unbearable?

My hunger pains aren't unbearable or anything, but yeah, they often start around my throat. It feels more like it's around my trachea if I had to pinpoint a spot, but it's definitely not anywhere near my stomach when it starts.

I found hunger pains were not actual pains but that I was dehydrated and once I drank more Water it was fine. I still take antacids as the acid reflux gets to me. Could just be acid reflux in your throat. I was sleeved back in Nov, 2014.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
