Best medication for gas relief

Recommended Posts

Hey there!

I am new to this forum but not new to the WLS community as I had gastric-banding surgery in 2006 which had to be removed earlier this year due to slippage and erosion. I have decided, like so many ex-banders, to be sleeved! My suregery date in 2.23 and I am working to do all the neccessary prep work now. I have read pretty extensively about this procedure and have noticed many post-op posts that state gas is a problem. I am curios what people have taken that has provided the best relief; I know that everyone is different and I might not have this problem but want to prepared.

I start my pre-op diet on Monday...excited and sorta dredding this part but I have been through it before. It's only a short bit of time in this long journey...right?!?!

Thanks!

I didn't have any issues with gas. I did begin to have a slight issue with acid around 6 weeks but my doctor increased my omeprazole to 40mgs & that seems to have resolved things

If you are talking about the gas that comes from the surgery itself, it's in your body cavity, it is not the kind of gas that is caused by food. GasX is popular, but the only thing that really works is walking it out.

Gas from food post op? GasX fo'shizzle.

Thanks for the replies! I will look for gasx strips as they seem to be the most recommended. I had the gas pain in my shoulders after my lap-band several years ago, so very familiar with walking that pain out :-).

Thanks again!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
